Any power failure on Plum Island would be a major disaster. Catastrophic!
There should be some Governmental reports and investigation if that sort of outage happened, I would think.
Paul Johnson trusted them. Worked around them, lived amongst them.
Of course, it is DUCK tape.
LOL
All I could think of was "Plumbers tape", which it is not, but is when I use it.
The possibilities of this is so thick in my mind that Duct tape wouldn't come in. Now I guess I know my minds size and it is full, needs a bit of deleting......
When you mentioned Plum Island, and described what it is, I immediately thought of the terrorists' threat about "dog disease."
Yes it does! We have this debate all the time and never find an answer. When I read the Camp of the Saints I was SICK for days. I would read put it down read some more put it down. Never was there an answer.
There have been several power outages on Plum Island, for some reason, there are many union strikes and in one the power was out and none of the generators would work.
they realy did seal the lab doors with Duct tape.
Earlier this year, a Pakistani nuclear scientist named A.Q. Khan confessed
to his role in a black market network that has been acting as a "one-stop
shop" for those seeking to build a nuclear weapon. Reports indicate that the
network, which has operated undetected for more than a decade, has provided
nuclear weapon designs, sensitive materials, and 24-hour technical support to
customers worldwide -- including North Korea, Iran, and Libya.
The New York Times has called the Khan network "one of the most complex
and successful efforts to evade international controls to stop nuclear
proliferation." Moreover, Khan's confession has sparked international concern
that other such networks may exist and that terrorists and rogue states may
have greater access to nuclear technology than previously thought.

That's true. I hope the ones that attend my school are a little more civilized than his butchers though! I have wondered about several students I have met, but for the most part.. they are just as 'American' as you or I.
My Arabic teacher is a student from Lebanon, I honestly had some level of distrust for him for a long while (I would always ask him questions during the elevated alerts and he was sheepish with his answers). At the end of the year, the 2 other people left in the class and I sat and talked with him for a few hours about everything that is going on. He let me know that he does not support any of the terrorist acts against America and that he does not understand the reasoning the terrorists give for their actions. When the subject of Iraq came up, he was a little more angry with the US. He told us never to go there, he said it was not our war and we do not deserve to die for the cause. I guess I disagreed with him a bit on his belief over that subject, but all in all he is a good guy. I do believe a majority of the Muslims in the US are.
Googling the terms "plum island security breaches" I found this on the first page:

Animal lab inquiryProblems persist at biocontainment research facility on Plum Island | By John Dudley Miller
Confirming continuing congressional allegations, a General Accounting Office (GAO) report says that until June of this year, security at the nation's top laboratory for deadly animal diseases was dangerously lax. Although many improvements have since been made, the lab's acting director admits that security is still not as tight as it needs to be.
"This report is not just a wake-up call; it's a blaring alarm," said Rep. Tim Bishop (D-NY), a persistent critic whose district includes the Plum Island Animal Disease Center...
The probe revealed that USDA officials once allowed eight foreign scientists free rein in the biocontainment area where diseases are stored, even though they had never undergone mandatory federal background checks. Foreign students attending classes at the facility never underwent such checks either. Because guards carried unauthorized firearms, local police departments refused to agree to provide assistance during potential bioterrorist attacks.
Physical security was also inadequate, said the report, which Harkin released Monday (October 20) after a 30-day review period. Electronic locks on doors and on refrigerators containing disease samples did not work correctly. Some outdoor security cameras looked out blindly over areas too dark to see anything at night because USDA had never installed adequate security lighting.

Deadly virus kills 20 dogs within weeks
By DANIEL SLUGGETT
June 24, 2004
AN outbreak of what has been described as "the SARS virus for dogs" is sweeping the Port Lincoln area killing more than 20 dogs in the past three weeks.
Vets in the region say a deadly strain of the parvo virus has struck the southern part of the city, infecting about 40 dogs in the past fortnight, with the potential to spread even further.

Yes, I had read that in a foreign news release and just thought...
well, how sad...that poor man must have been terrified.
Good find!
Why am I not surprised that other networks might exist?
I cannot find my note on it, think it might have been on
one of the long lists of news, but the one I am thinking of, is about a country that was going to close its nuclear Department next year and if it did so, there will be 900 Nuclear scientists out of work............
Castro warns Bush against invading Cuba
HAVANA (AFP) - President Fidel Castro Monday warned his colleague George W. Bush not to make war on Cuba and offered health care to 3,000 Americans who cannot afford it.
"You would not win that war," he told an absent Bush while addressing a crowd of 200,000. "You will not find glory in military action against Cuba," because "your march on Cuba would not be easy."
