LIVE THREAD: Pres. Bush pays respects and calls on Mrs. Reagan

Posted on 06/10/2004 2:28:07 PM PDT by alisasny

Alot of dignataries are now showing up to pay respects. McCain, Guiliani, Gorby, Karzai, etc.

Cspan has live coverage. Bush expected at 7 but could be earlier? He is then going to visit with Mrs. Reagan.

Guard changes about every half hour at .28 and .58 of the hour. One is going on right now.

The silence is beautiful isn't it? A friend today who is a commander in the Navy Reserve told me he wanted to put on his uniform and fly to DC and salute RR but he couldn't go.

I bet it was as part of a request by soldiers to let more soldiers have a chance to stand guard.

It is worth noting that soldiers now and during Reagan did not have to be ordered to show respect as they had under x42 and x39.

She reminds me so much of my mother.

When I watched yesterday, she reminded me of my mom when my dad passed away... so strong, yet so fragile. Her gentile pat on the flag just got to me...

when she was patting the flag, it was heartbreaking. And she looked around sort of as if she was so vulnerable, it was the saddest thing.

"When Gorby came to the bier, I cried again. What a moment. Your old enemy comes to pay respect. WOW. I am so proud of our young men and women military guard. They are impressive. I am so proud to be an American."

You took the words out of my mouth. I had the TV on and made a 19 year old employee watch while history was made. She wasn't impressed until customers of mine cried.

Oh, bless his heart. You're right...that one got me really misty. I just love Michael Reagan and I think he loved his dad much more than the natural born son.

I have a question? What is the symbolism or significance of the slow motion cadence (I think it is the guard)?

They showed him this morning on FNC being interviewed by Catherine Herridge. I believe he had lost both arms if I recall correct

Cspan is showing an exterior shot. The Presidential motorcade is very close to the Capitol building.
