Posted on 06/10/2004 2:28:07 PM PDT by alisasny

Alot of dignataries are now showing up to pay respects. McCain, Guiliani, Gorby, Karzai, etc.

Cspan has live coverage. Bush expected at 7 but could be earlier? He is then going to visit with Mrs. Reagan.

Guard changes about every half hour at .28 and .58 of the hour. One is going on right now.

Not so hard for Clinton because like OJ, he can make himself believe his own innocence.

Barlow, an easy way to do this, is to post your article to FR with your comments. Then all FReepers can see this guy is crooked. Then link it back in to this thread. those who are interested can comment on your thread. Those who don't really care about it can continue here. I think this thread is about Reagan.

Just my two cents.

Just read on another thread that Kristinn reported that the park police just announced to the crowd that the viewing would be extended until 9am, instead of 7am as previously planned. He has been in line for almost 2 hours, and said that there were thousands in line behind him. WOW!!!

Michael said in his book he did live with his father and Nancy for a while when Patti and Ron were small. I think he was older, close to the teen years. It didn't go well as they didn't have a bedroom for him and he felt left out of everything. Things have gone much better in their relationship since he is married and has children. Michael talked about it in his book in more detail. I think it would be a mistake to say he is distant from them. If I were going to a funeral I would be with my husband and children and no one else. From the book, he said they had worked out their misunderstandings. He had a difficult time living a normal life and making a living when his dad was president. A lot of children of presidents have problems like that. You get lots of criticism no matter what you do.

And the pickup for Clinton will be lined with outdoor carpet to be consistent with his preferred rug burns.

If I were going to a funeral I would be with my husband and children and no one else

Well, I did go to a funeral in April, my Dad's. I went with my wife and daughters, but I was there for my mother, and my family was there for me. All I was saying is that their relationship, while close and cordial, is not a mother son relationship. That makes this situation somewhat awkward. Many, many people will have that kind of awkward situation in the future, given the divorce rate these days.

For example, my sister in law is married to her third husband. If she should die before he does, 3 of the 5 of her kids will be in the same situation, it will be their mother's funeral, but her husband will not be their father. (They all get along with him fabulously, and pretty much have from day one of the marriage, so it would be somewhat less awkward than the situation with Michael and Nancy).

How about this one?

Patti Davis (C-R) hugs her mother, Nancy Reagan (C-L), as they pay respects to former president Ronald Reagan (news - web sites) after his casket arrived June 7, 2004 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. More than 60,000 mourners endured traffic jams and lengthy waits to pay their final respects to former U.S. President Ronald Reagan on June 8 and his daughter told of a tender last moment when he suddenly opened his eyes and looked at his wife Nancy. (Pool/Reuters)

BTW, local news has it at at LEAST 106,000 people...

Michael Wenning walk along with a color guard and military honor guard carrying the casket containing former U.S. President Ronald Reagan (news - web sites), as it is loaded into the hearse in Simi Valley, California June 9, 2004. As a military band played 'Hail to the Chief' and 'Amazing Grace,' Ronald Reagan started his last journey to Washington after an outpouring of affection and grief in California. (Pool/Reuters)
