PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan, the fortieth President of the United States, will be remembered as one of our most popular and beloved presidents; and
WHEREAS, we are blessed to live in a Nation, and a world, that have been shaped by his leadership, vision and will; and
WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan, who departed this life on June 5, 2004, left the United States a stronger and better Nation.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, Governor of the state of Louisiana, do hereby proclaim Friday, June 11, 2004, as
A DAY OF MOURNING IN LOUISIANA FOR PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN
and call upon the people of Louisiana to pay appropriate homage to the memory and legacy of Ronald Reagan.
I FURTHER ORDER that all flags on State buildings be immediately displayed at half-staff through July 3, 2004, and shall be raised to full staff on the morning of July 4.
In Witness Thereof, I have hereunto set my hand officially and caused to be affixed the Great Seal of the State of Louisiana, at the Capitol, in the City of Baton Rouge, on this the 8th day of June A.D., 2004
Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, Governor of Louisiana
Attest By The Governor, Fox McKeithen, Secretary of State
Isn't she a Democrat? Looks like some others could take a lesson here.
She is a Democrat. She also refused to attend commencement ceremonies last month at LSU when President Bush spoke. This may be a bit of damage control.
Did a little more research on her. She is a devout Catholic who opposes affirmative action, abortion, gun control and higher taxes according to the Washington Post.
Will the LA state offices be closed?
Must say Oklahoma's Democrat governor, Brad Henry, stepped up right away and ordered everything closed on Friday.
If only the state capitol would be closed EVERY Friday... THAT would be a great tribute!
BTW, I'm waiting for someone on the left to complain about the Republicans shutting down the government again...
My money's on Maxine Waters or Shiela Jackson Lee.
She is a dem but dems in Louisiana are alot like pubs except remember, she is in favor of expanding school for little teeny kids, is a supporter of the teacher's union, loves welfare, Louisiana loves welfare since Huey Long. She is a snake in my opinion.
Plus, and I can't believe I missed this, it is a good opportunity for a party and gumbo and Louisianians love parties and gumbo more than they love welfare. And remember, she and Mary Landrieu are closer than twins. They are endlessly plotting.
This is all well and good. But got to wondering if the $3,700,000.00 in the Louisiana Purchase agreement ever got to those U.S. citizens which were supposed to receive it or not. Would like any one to educate me on this.
Thanks, Ahavat-chofshee = (Hebrew for) lover of freedom!
Please explain.
BTTT
FWIW, Blanco is as dumb as a post.
She is a southern democrat and at least here when a person dies most people will show their respect for the dead. It is a manners thing, not a policy thing I would say.
Virginia's RAT governor declared a "Day of Remembrance" but offices remain open.
At the risk of sounding like a "newbie" freeper (which I am), what in the round world does BTTT mean?!?
Yes, Blanco is a Democrat, and she is supporting Kerry. While that, in itself, is lamentable, we can still give her credit for an eloquent tribute to The Gipper via the proclamation.
