We arrived at 12th and Constitution at 2PM set up Freeper camp and then took shifts watching the kids in the Smithsonian. The crowd slowly grew until it was 10-15 people deep all along the procession route. All in attendance were polite, somber and super patriotic. Enjoy the photos.

FReepers are the BEST!
Thanks for your kind words. To my dear photographer brother, f zero, can you SEND it anywhere?-- it is one of the best.
It's just that horsey people are always looking at the horse. Always.
I've got to get film of the funeral cortege. I wonder if CSpan is going to replay it again (I don't stay up after midnight much).
Thanks, pf. I watched on TV, but you give a much better sense of being there. Very nice presentation.
A thousand thank yous.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience.
The riderless horse picture was absolutely perfect.
Nice Work!
wonderful photos, thank you so much... very kind of you.
Isn't it though? I didn't know about this horse or the boots until recently. I was hoping when I started looking at these wonderful pictures that I would it here.
You nailed it! Sergeant York had just reared up and did a 360 in the road. I was lucky to get a shot of him actually going in the right direction.
excellent!
The photos are beautiful and moving....thank you both!
What kind of camera/lens and film did you use?
These were done by my brother, who is an award-winning and I would say semi-pro photographer. He FReeps as well and I've copied him on this so he can respond.
as I said in an earlier post, I'll probably not get my pictures developed before Christmas!
Me too. :)
Thanks so much.
Sorry, I couldn't POSSIBLY say. Where we were was about 10-15 deep and very hot and sweaty. Add three kids 5 and under and well, it was a real treat!
I was there yesterday. As the marching units came out to take their places People CLAPPED...when the Navy band played God Bless America people CLAPPED....FLAGS WAVED, pictures were taken people were moved....in the end the American people showed their respects, NO HARSH WORD were said of him or to the people paying respect....It must pain those who see the worts but can't see the whole...how much America means in the hearts of the people....
Not bothered a bit. There was no cheering or loud applause, but more of a respectful outpouring of admiration and respect. I realy think that people did not know what to do. If you are in uniform, you salute; wearing a hat, you place it over your heart; so inclined, put your hand over your heart; a great photographer, snap away (thanks f zero); overwhelmed and not sure what to do, applaud softly.
The music surprised me at bit, but I saw it as celebratory and again, not inappropriate. We were honoring a man who served his country well over a full two terms, who led a full life until the ripe old age of 93, who had endured the ravages of Alzheimers for the last decade and who was now freed and with his Maker. Seemed like the right time for a little patriotic musical flair.
How many hours did you have to wait?
We left suburban MD about 12:30, caught the Metro in, and were in place and "staked out" at 2:00. By the time the procession got underway, it was after 6:00, but the whole event was over in front of us in about 30-40 minutes. Then, we all stood around waiting for the fly-by. We should have high-tailed it to the Mall for that one, though, since that would have been a better vantage point. Oh well, NEXT time . . .
Thanks for sharing with us.
