ABC's idea of "Family Entertainment"?

No offense intended for those who are fans of the movie "Blazing Saddles" - I am a fan myself - but I have never considered it "wholesome family entertainment". IN fact, I was not allowed to see it growing up - having to wait until I was somewhere around 17 to see it.
Yet ABC Family network has decided that it's just hunky-dory to show this.

Maybe I'm a fuddy-duddy - or maybe I'm just too sensitive, but I just don't think this is appropriate for the whole family.....

They cut quite a bit from the film, especially the clearest sexual references. They've been showing it for a few years. It's interesting, they bleep the word "faggot" but leave in the n-word.

I love it when Alex Karris punches the horse.

I agree with you; we don't let our children watch Mel Brooks' films, although my husband and I enjoy them. We explained to our oldest that low Jewish humor has a long tradition in the U.S. and Europe, but we just don't think it's appropriate at her age. And honestly, I feel a little guilty about enjoying "History of the World, Part I!"

For a little contrast try this upcomming "documentary" on HBO.

From the add i got the impression that it's all about the evil American govt and the execution of some fine upstanding citizens called the Rosenbergs. (sarcasm)
Makes blazing saddles seem downright educational.

I agree with you. I am a big Mel Brooks fan and some of his movies are acceptable "for the whole family." Blazing Saddles is one of my all-time favourite movies, BUT it is not the first thing that I would show to kids. Some of the humour is not appropriate for the younger set. Dracula: Dead and Loving It is an example of t a movie that younger folks can enjoy (especially as antidote to the gory fare offered at Halloween).

It's going to depend on the editing, but given all the race references, I can't see it being appropriate to those below 14.

Interesting. Well they mention that the KGB archives have documents that list their names and their codenames and lists of payments rendered to them for "services rendered to the Soviet State"? Somehow, I rather doubt it.

I have seen both versions. Both are good and have their strong points.

I still laugh when Gene Wilder delivers that line.
