Transcript of the Robert Kennedy - Ronald Reagan debate
John F. Kennedy Library and Museum and NewsMax ^

The John F. Kennedy Libray and Museum has the complete transcript of the famous Kennedy/Reagan debate from 1967. After the debate, Kennedy growled at his aide Frank Mankiewicz, "Who the f--- got me into this??".

Gingrich recalled the debate which ended with Kennedy besseching his aides: no more.

"Clearly the people expected Reagan to get beaten badly. This was the anti-Vietnam War period. Kennedy represented the left. They were being interviewed by, I think it was four or eight foreign students. And Reagan was just amazing."

Gingrich continued:

"Bobby Kennedy did the debate from Paris. And afterwards he turned to [longtime Kennedy aide] Pierre Salinger and said, 'Never, ever again put me on television with him. It was impossible.'"

Reagan was a genial nice guy without much upstairs? Bah! Read the transcript.

Excellently handled by Reagan, and great finishing statement.

I was surprised by Kennedy. Had no idea he was that bad.

Poor old Kennedy thought he was gonna' kick sand in hunky lifeguard's face. Silly boy forgot, "We're not in Massachusetts anymore, Toto."

Most of the debate was with these smarmy, commie-symp students than between Reagan and Kennedy. Reagan and Kennedy differed on aspects, but they were clearly 2 people speaking from an American perspective. The students were disrespectful and full of the stupid commie propaganda that used to pass as truth among those who wanted the end of America. I was so glad when these people lost the cold war, so unhappy when they didn't go away.

"We're not in Massachusetts anymore, Toto."

I like it!

I also LOVE the way Reagan makes Jeff Jordan (whoever he is/was) spell out his objections, then walks all over the guy correcting his false view with the facts of history! Great stuff

Seems no one was that interested in talking to him...sorta just giving him a turn as a courtesy. They wanted to challenge Reagan. And Reagan was never back on his heels. Not once.

Not very nice to speak ill of the dead.

Of course, if you're talking about Ted...I agree.

If Reagan had lost, it would be in our collective memories like the King-Riggs tennis match.
