Perhaps too busy still mourning the loss of his business partner Saddam Hussein, chief French quisling Jacques Chirac is not only refusing to attend former President Ronald Reagan's funeral on Friday, his government doesn't even list a representative who will attend.

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder are the only G-8 leaders who have confirmed plans to attend. British Prime Minister Tony Blair is expected as well, along with former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Prince Charles.

Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin says he will not attend and is sending Governor-General Adrienne Clarkson. Former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney is expected.

Others on the list for the ceremony include former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, Irish President Mary McAleese, Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, South African President Thabo Mbeki, Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, Romanian President Ion Iliescu, Acting Lithuanian President Arturas Paulauskas, former Polish President Lech Walesa, former Finnish President Mauno Koivisto, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Angelo Sodano, Australian Governor General Maj. Gen. Michael Jeffrey, former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone, Slovakian President Rudolf Schuster, Grenadan Governor General Sir Daniel Williams, former Danish Prime Minister Poul Schlueter, Swedish Deputy Prime Minister Lars Engqvist and Indian External Affairs Minister K. Natwar Singh.

One thing I simply do not understand is why Kerry seems to regard the French as an ally worth courting.

&&
That's easy; they do not want the US to be a super power, which is Hanoi Kerry's position as well.

I don't think she should attend. A long flight to the U.S. would be difficult for someone with her infirmities. Think of the problems that can arise such as blood clots in major veins, etc. I hope the Bushes have taken her under their wing and are putting her up at the White House and are transporting her in a comfortable, air-conditioned limo to the funeral service. What guts this lady has! I've admired her for years.

I've been working extremely hard for the past year. I shan't bore anyone else with it, but it's a "trail of tears" type story involving a struggle against outsourcing the jobs of my people to India. Eventually, we lost, I changed jobs.

Sorry to hear of it. Financial or technology sector jobs?

...deep insult to the people of the United States.

And that is precisely how this particular American is taking it. I've never been one to participate in boycotts, but it will be a cold day in hell before I knowingly buy a French product or visit France. What I feel for Chirac is beyond hatred.

Good!

I would not want the sob to come anyway.

Ifn fact, if he showed up, I would have my pall bearers throw him out.

Saw video of Tony arriving at G-8 this morning.

Tony is looking GREAT!
At the top of his form: healthy, vivacious, confident and a warm smile.
It's always great when the cousins come to visit.
Especially at a wake, family far removed, is even more welcome.

God Bless the Brits.

I hope you saw the movie, LOVE ACTUALLY. The incoming British Prime Minister, a bachelor played by Hugh Grant, is worried, because he fears a cutey pie who works at 10 Downing, will prove very distracting. He turns to a portrait on the wall, of Prime Minister Thatcher and asks her; "Did you have this problem?" Then he says, "Of course you did, you saucy minx!"

It's priceless!

Another line I loved...Prime Minister Hugh Grant, on meeting the housekeeper, reassures her he will be easier than the last tenant, promising: "No teenagers, no nappies, and no scary wife!"

Serious breach of protocol is an understatement.

This is more like a spit in the face.

When the day of Chirac's funeral finally arrives, the American President will be waiting forever on his body to arrive to lie in state.

That's because it'll STILL be back at the funeral parlor. When it comes time to load the hearse, all the buglar will know how to blow will be RETREAT!!!

"his government doesn't even list a representative who will attend"

NO! Former French President Valerie Giscard d'Estaing and French External Affairs Minister Barnier went to Reagan's Funeral.

Stop the lies!

Man. I was flabbergasted when I heard this. He was in the country already and didn't go.

And after Dubya answered the reporter's question in France [I think France] recently about Dubya being angry at France. "I've not been angry with France".

Well, Dubya, I am angry with Chirac !!!
