"At least Germany is sending Schroeder..."
Wasn't it Schroeder who reportedly said:
"Ronald Reagan was a stroke of luck (for the rest of us).."
I thought that was one of the better quotes since Saturday.
Also, adding my 2cents to the general welcome back for Mad Ivan..hope he stays with us again.
Chirac won't be attending??? And he's not listing a representative? I'm sure Ronald Reagan wouldn't have it any other way. Likewise Canadian pipsqueak Chretien.
Quel surprise!
France is the enemy - France has always been the enemy.
They keep digging their hole deeper.
As if they hadn't lost enough respect from the American people already....
I'm sorry for the reason for your return but I am truly glad to see the daily list of MadIvan posts. I missed your insights.
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my infrequent miscellaneous ping list.
Afternoon Ivan. Just wanted to thank you for the chuckle....from your bio as well. LOL. I had to chuckle at the last entry on your list of Heros.....
The next time ANYONE brings up how we need to include the French as our allies, the IMMEDIATE REPLY should be: well, they didn't honor our invitation to attend President Reagan's funeral, so screw them and all who stand with those rude ba@$%rds!
I had forgotten all about that!
Pray for W and Saint Nancy
I forgot about the part where I am supposed to give a S&^#.
I did not have a problem with the French not backing us in Iraq. BUT this is just a disgraceful move and Mr Chirac has proven what a classless man he is.
Huh? That would be news to the hundreds of thousands of Free French who escaped France after the German invasion and who fought alongside the Allies. Free French pilots fought and died as part of the RAF during the Battle of Britain and also many thousands served in the Navy beside the Royal Navy. Free French also took part in the invasion of Italy (some 100,000 French troops fought the Italian campaign) and fought alongside Allied troops in Egypt and Syria.
There is a time limit on the French boycott? I plan on never buying French anything again as long as I live.
In fact after this latest insult, I hope France ends up so broke that they sell us the Eiffel Tower.
OTOH, I'm glad he's not coming...

Thatcher told to quit public speaking
"Baroness Thatcher has been ordered by doctors to make no more public speeches on health grounds. The former prime minister's office made the announcement on Friday afternoon after she suffered the latest of a series of small strokes on Tuesday. ......" "It said the 76-year-old, who was resting at her home on Friday, would never again make any public speeches. In a statement, her office said: "Over recent months, Lady Thatcher has suffered a number of small strokes. "After thorough investigation, involving a number of tests, her doctors have told her that these can neither be predicted nor prevented. ..."
But because of her affection for President Reagan, and because it was his request, Thatcher recorded a eulogy for him, which will be played at the funeral. She will attend the funeral because she loved him, and her words will be heard....a blessing for us all.
Your wish has been granted!!!
Apparently the press has forgotten about it too. Amidst all the reminiscences, I've not hear a one of these reporters mention it. Her performance made all the papers, and since it was at the Press Club, it looks like the PRESS members could recall it.
Chirac is probably fuming because Bush dominated G-8, got everything he wanted, and now Iraq seems to be working out our way toward democracy, without France's help. Mon Dieu! Chirac is showing the entire world what a boor he is. Hmm, maybe dinner conversation with Bush at Normandy wasn't all that pleasant. Someday maybe GW will write his memoirs and we'll know what went on.
This is a Newsmax article. Is Russia sending Putin? No. All people see is a distorted headline and immediately go into French bashing mode. The French, like the Russians and many more nations, are sending representatives. Those representatives do not need to be current heads of state.
