I disagree. Reliving the Reagan Revolution (or as WSJ said, more like a Restoration) is a good thing for the American public to do right now -- Ron would have approved, I think. The Great Communicator knew the importance of getting your message out. He was so good at portraying the best of America. Let the people hear and understand: THIS is what we're fighting for. Not oil, not conquest, but to be that 'city on the hill' -- that beacon of freedom, that helps those who want to help themselvles.

Ronald ReaganThe U.S. presidential election campaign has effectively ground to a halt as Americans bid farewell to former President Ronald Reagan.
With the Bush and Kerry campaigns on hold this week out of respect for Ronald Reagan, both candidates have had time to reflect on the legacy of the 40th U.S. president.
President Bush spoke about it to reporters covering the G-8 Summit in Georgia. "Ronald Reagan will go down in history as a great American president because he had a core set of principles from which he would not deviate. He understood that a leader is a person who sets clear goals and makes decisions based upon principles that are etched in his soul," he said.
Democratic presidential hopeful John Kerry paid his respects in person at the Reagan Library in California. In an earlier statement, Senator Kerry said that even when Mr. Reagan was breaking Democratic hearts in the 1980s, he did so in the spirit of honest and open debate.
"President Reagan's belief in America was infectious. And because of the way he led, he taught us there was a difference between strong beliefs and bitter partisanship," he said.
Some political analysts are wondering what impact, if any, Mr. Reagan's passing and the reflections on his legacy might have on this year's presidential contest.
"Never before has a great president died in the midst of a tightly contested campaign," said American University presidential historian Allan Lichtman. "Presidents have died previously during election years, but not tightly contested ones like this one," he said.
Professor Lichtman says the generally positive media coverage of Ronald Reagan's presidency this week could give President Bush a political boost at a time when the president's public approval ratings have been sinking.
"I think it benefits George Bush in two ways. Number one, he is the sitting president and as the sitting president, he will be front and center in the funeral ceremony," he said. "John Kerry will be spectator. Secondly, to the extent that the celebration of Ronald Reagan is a celebration of America's conservative heritage, the natural legatee (heir) of that is not John Kerry, but is George Bush...

So true! And there's not a thing the Dims can do about it ... except look mean and petty. Ronald Reagan believed that America's hope lay in its constant renewal and underlying that is the basic American optimism that he tapped into. Renewal and optimism are antithetical to leftist ideology. This loss, this final farewell to the "Great Communicator", will create a great yearning in Americans for a return to the sense of vigor Ronald Reagan instilled in this nation. Americans will seek to relive that in any way they can. Voting for Bush, joining the military, volunteering for campaigns, going to church and a thousand other positive activities that give people a feeling that "I'm an American and I can make a difference."
The "Reagan Revolution" wasn't about Ronald Reagan and he never intended it to be. It's about America. That is why it succeeded and that is why it will live long after this day. The "Reagan Revolution" was never anything more than a manifestation of the American Revolution. His life was an homage to that. God bless Ronald Reagan!

I don't think you and I are in disagreement, for the most part. My point is that the Democrats will do as they have done since Impeachment, make wildeye'd statements that verge on insanity (Kennedy, Pelosi, Byrd, Hollings, Waters specifically) and further the ongoing alienation of voters.
There is no doubt the effect of Ronald Reagan....my concern however is with the November election, which will give us the man that picks the next four or five Supreme Court Justices, determines how we conduct the next stage of the war on terror, and will decide if we continue to grow the economy, or burden it with new taxes.
My view is the democrats will release the "hounds" concerning Ronald Reagan beginning full force on the Sunday talk shows, and thats where Bush might benefit politically.

It is of great comfort when such unbiased sources (/sarcasm) as the LA Times think that Kerry is ahead in national polls. Perhaps it would be good to evaluate how close each of these polls were in the California recall election, LOL!

The Pelosi's of the world really think that if they say something, their constituency will believe it. And in most cases they are correct about that. Democrats are generally not deep thinkers. No one ever told them "don't believe everything you hear/read".
It will motivate the conservative base, but not do anything for the moderates.
The impact will not last through November.
Like it or not, the analysts are right saying it won't have a big impact.
We should not politicize his funeral.
I have no problem just discussing whether the timing of this may impact the election, however.
