Read about this bill

ALERT: As you've heard by now, the greatest president of the modern era has passed on to be with his Lord. As a tribute to his legacy, we believe it's finally time to replace President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's image on the dime with Ronald Reagan's.

According to WorldNetDaily.com, a group of over 80 members of Congress have co-sponsored a bill to put The Gipper's face on the coin.

Rep. Mark Souder (R-IN) introduced the bill, the "Ronald Reagan Dime Act" (HR 3633), last year during the controversy over the airing of the leftist mini-series "The Reagans" on television.

"It is particularly fitting to honor the Freedom President on this particular piece of coinage," Souder stated. "The faces on all coinage have changed and will continue to change. Were that not the case, FDR would not be on the dime, and Eisenhower would still be on the dollar coin. When the dime is again changed - as all other coins will be someday - it is my belief that Ronald Reagan's profile should be on it."

"FDR believed the federal government should spend your dimes. Ronald Reagan believed the people should spend their own dimes. I think it's clear that the dimes in your pocket should bear Ronald Reagan's image," co-sponsor Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-CA) said.

TAKE ACTION: The Ronald Reagan Dime Act currently has 88 cosponsors - including Speaker Dennis Hastert, Majority Leader Tom DeLay, Majority Whip Roy Blunt, and many committee chairmen. The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Financial Services.

I thought they were looking at the ten dollar bill. I frankly would rather see him there.

If we can get both...that would be great.

let the democrats keep the small change. Roosevelt earned his spot on the dime with his support on the march of dimes. I want Reagan on the $10 bill; or even... Nothing against Grant's accomplishments in life, but as a president he did not do that great. I would like to see him step aside . Reagan on the fifty... could you beat that?

Jeff, I believe it was the $20. I have seen that serveral times in the news. Someone suggested it should be on the $50 or $100, but if it were on the $20 it would be seen constantly.

Think that would tweak the lefties? Hah hah hah... love it!

Reagan should be on the 20. Jackson didn't do much and was a jerk besides. Hamilton was a great man and well deserving of being on the 10.

I believe the lefties would be happy if they could relegate Reagan to the dime instead of the $20 dollar bill. Every ATM transaction, Reagan's mugg would be stuck in the face of people who hated and tried to destroy him, to no avail. How fitting!

Imagine the possibilities of putting a few choice things on the back of the bill, like the powers granted us by God, not man. What a windfall of education that bill could be!

I want Reagan on the $20 bill. It'll drive Liberals insane every time they use an ATM. : )

Well, ones would be plentiful, but the $20 stands out to me.

Don't you think it would be an absolute windfall to conservatism if each and every time someone withdrew money from the ATM, there was President Reagan's face on the front, on the back were important parts of the Constiution and explanations why rights were granted by God instead of man, that government was granted powers by the people, not the other way around?

Why it would deal socialists a fatal blow.

This won't happen because Nancy has been very vocal "against" this happening so far.

His lifelong legacy may be worth 10 cents to these people at this website, but I think it's worth more. I say put him on the $20 bill. It'll tweak the left to have to look at the bigger picture of Reagan.

I look at it this way, GS -- Jackson was the first democrat and he was a brawler, slave owner and duelist. He threatened to hang John C. Calhoun and ordered his wife around like a servant in the White House. It would be hard to find a more politically incorrect President and the beauty of it is that he was a democrat. Ever notice how the democrats never bring up the founder of their party?

For that reason, I would rather keep him on his twenty and replace FDR with Ronald Reagan.

Mark Souder, the sponsor of this bill, is that wimp from Indiana who voted to keep Bill Clinton in office despite multiple high crimes and misdemeanors. Souder used the same flawed judgment back then as he's using now with this proposed legislation.

Considering that Ronald Reagan voted for FDR multiple times when he was a Democrat, I doubt very seriously that Reagan would approve of elbowing FDR off the dime.

I'm also against it because it reminds me of the time Reagan was shot and the bullet was flattened into the thickness of a dime when it hit the bullet-proof car and bounced into Reagan's body.

Leave the dime alone. Instead, we should try to save this country hundreds of millions of dollars by finally eliminating the one-dollar bill and replacing it with a Reagan $1 coin. The Susan B. Anthony failed, as did Sacagawea. However, a $1 Reagan coin would succeed, especially if $1 bills were gradually taken out of circulation.

Not a bad idea, but then we have a new problem. Washington, the Father of our county, will no longer be on our currency (just on the quarter). Bad move, IMO.

I've got another idea. Let's circulate $2 bills again with Hamilton moved to that denomination and Ronald Reagan taking his place on the $10 bill.

Yep. I saw that many of them were already squirming. Said they would refuse to accept the bills and ask for others. That would be amusing to watch them bristle every time they have to ask for different bills.

Well, every year we waste millions of dollars just because we insist on using $1 bills instead of the much more durable coins, so I think the last thing we need is more $2 bills, as well.

However, you have a good point about George Washington.

Maybe we could get rid of the $1 bills and replace them with a $1 Washington coin and a $2 Reagan coin. In Canada, they have $1 and $2 coins, and it seems to work just fine (unlike most of the things up there in Liberal Hoserland).
