It'll probably be time to turn in the semi-auto rifles shortly after kerry wins. No, it will be time for "the authorities" to Come and Take It. Most won't be "turning them in".

Ya got that right....and it is not just a 'gun ban' it is the precursor to gun confiscation....
and property seizures....
The end of the real America of our founders and the rise of the 3rd way 4th globalist elite's
rule over Americans...
They have ask Americas young men and women to venture to the Middle east where many have given their lives...and limbs to the cause of liberty and keeping American soil terror free....
The govt. is going to tell these same men and women...that they cannot be trusted to own a firearm...to defend the liberty of their loved ones or to protect their lives...right here in America? After their return from combat?.....
Good luck...this same kind of thinking on the part of an 'elite' gave us a nation in the first place
imo

I sent Mr. Warner an Email when the subject first came up. His reply was worthy of a Democrat. He stated he would vote to extend the ban because it was proven to save lives! I then requested statistics to back up the claim - that was the first correspondence he has not replied to.

Doesn't it need a vote in the house too?
If so, it is a dead duck.

Big Bump. It's not an "assault weapon" ban, it's a plain and simple gun ban. They just give it a scarey name.
Correct. It does not ban a single assault weapon that I am aware of. It does lay the ground work to ban semi auto pistols, rifles and shotguns at some future time.
Its not uncommon for a bill to have a name that is intended to evoke fear - it helps garner public support.

Ping for later.
Ingenious really, if this hits Bush's desk, he loses. If he signs it, he angers a large part of his base that will not show up to vote for him in November. If he vetos, the press rips him for lying and he risks loosing some of the "swing" voters.
I hope that this doesn't even get out of the Senate.

It's most certainly a lose-lose if it gets past the House. I bet it'll leave the Senate though. Delay better be on top of things.

I do't call open assaults on the Bill of Rights "doom and gloom".
