Time to vote in Maine

Today is Primary Day in Maine, we also have on the ballot, an initiative to force the state to life up to it's obligation to pay 55% of education cost.

I you haven't voted yet, take a moment to look at our suggestions,

55% initiative YES! Over the last years, since the early eighties, those elected to represent Mainer's have turned against Maine property owners to the extent that we have the , justifiable reputation, of being the highest taxed, lowest paid, worst managed state in the county. Proposition One would force state government to do one of two things, pay 55% of the local school budgets, or get rid of a lot of mandates they have placed on the local school committees and paid for by local property taxes.

Candidates in contested races.

Senate District 25 Mr. Caldwell Jackson (R)

Senate District 16 Mr. Paul Madore (D)

District 33, both Republicans, Russ Treadwell and Debby plowman have solid pro-life credentials. But, we are endorsing Russ Treadwell.

House District 10 Guy Duprey (D)

House District 59 Neither of the Democrates are worth voting for.

House District 137 H. Stedman Seavy (R)

To be endorsed, a candidates must meet certain requirements. To see those requirements, click here

And if you can stay to watch the vote count, you might want to do that. Remember the seat belt vote back in 93? It is always best to watch the votes being coutned when we go against the powers to be.

I forget which District he's in (since redistrticting last year) but one of our very own, Mike VAUGHAN is running for re-election to the House from the Durham - Lisbon Falls area. Mike's a good Friend, good man, good Rep; I hope he makes it.

Having been out of politics for the most part recently, I don't even know who's what in this town anymore (Yarmouth) so will probably vote straight RINO ticket, as that's about as close to "Republican" as we are apt to get out of this Yuppietown.
They might be a LITTLE more fiscally sentiant than the Dems, but on social policy I seldom see any significant distinction.

Not that it matters much; the School cabal and the liberal Unitarian & Congo Churches in this town (among whatever other local institutions they've infiltrated and taken over) have pretty much sewn up political power here, and it's almost a waste of time to any Pubbie to even run, from what I can tell.

What's up with a FR endorsement of a couple of "D"s, eh?

I shouldn't be surprised really, given the crop of flaming RINOs our Party regularly and proudly puts up in this State - there seems to be more than a few Dems who appear to have a better grasp of reality than a lot of our RINOs, sad to say. And as a matter of fact, I know one who is running not far away (NOT in Mike's District, I can assure you!)

Does the Majority Party in the Legislature not matter for anything any more, or have we just given up on that issue and accepted permanent minority status as the status quo ad infinitum?

Surprisingly, we got a call from a Portland area Teacher encouraging a "Yes" vote on the Prop. 1 Tax cap initiative. The NEA and MEA President Ron LaBelle's name was dropped.
I know Ron, as he's a very close Friend of a Relative who's a Teacher. When I see him at Family gatherings etc., we don't have much to say to each other, and that's probably just as well.

Now it's not very bloomin' often that the NEA/MEA and I are on the same page, and I really didn't think that the public indoctrination industry much gave a hoot where the money came from, as long as it keeps pouring in.

But I guess that maybe a few Teachers got taxed out of their homes too, do ye suppose?

Personally, I would like to see a law passed that makes any regulation or mandate that the Legislature is unwilling or unable to fund automatically be considered as a "Suggestion" until it IS funded.
I don't see that ever happening as long as the Ds run the State House, however (if at all).

As to the GOP "Primaries" I don't even know who's on the Ballot - or if any even bothered to run this time.
The Polls are open, I believe, 'till 2000hrs and in the meantime I'm open to suggestion.

we have the , justifiable reputation, of being the highest taxed, lowest paid, worst managed state in the county The funny thing about this is that I've heard people say the same thing about Idaho and Montana so Maine has some competition and I insist that it stop calling itself the highest taxed, lowest paid state in the nation! It's Idaho's title and we're going to keep it. ;)

Ach Mon! It seems that wherever I live, that is the most depressed State in the Union.

Perhaps I ought to become a bit more nomadic, and spread the misery aroon' more evenly, don't ye suppose?

Could it be that Scots genes just don't feel quite right in the midst of prosperity? I know that prosperity and I have been quite successfully eluding one another for over 55 years now, without even trying.

Living in Maine sure helps!

We have heard the "statistics" about Maine's dubious distinction as being among the highest per capita taxation States, if not the worst, in the Nation.

Ditto for average income, employment, hostile business environment...
Higest rate of alchoholism, suicide, and depression (other than perhaps Alaska)... yadda, yadda...

Gawd; don't it make us wickkid proud!?

It seems that Maine's population is becoming increasingly polarized; we have on one hand the affluent "Yuppies" who can afford to pay 80% or so of their income and still live large, the wealthy professionals or "retired" from "away", and on the other side the chronically dependant and prolificly breeding professional welfare recipients, many of whom are helping us to "celebrate diversity" here in so many interesting ways.

Those who are still working seem to consist largely of government Beauraucrats, "Service" sector employees, and menial labor - much of which is alien / migrant or recent immigrant.

The primary industry of Maine (Not counting, of course, prostitution, Burglary, and Cannabis Sativa L. Agriculture) used to be TeleMarketing - but since we passed the "Do not call" thing (and Thank God for THAT!) and since most remaining Telemarketers seem to work out of Bangladesh these days, that has joined industry and legitimate agriculture as pretty much passing fancies here in the "Dirigo State".

Runnaway State spending and Unfunded mandates - mostly in public indoctrination - force munincipalities to levy ever-increasingly confiscatory property taxes, which force many long-time "Natives" and those on a fixed income or of moderate means out of their homes - especially in the desirable coastal areas - in order to make room for the wealthier urbanites from "away" who can better afford to support this liberal beauraucraic largesse.

I call this phenomenon "Socio-Economic Cleansing" after Slobadon Milosovitch's "Ethic Cleansing" in Bosnia.
Only Slobbadon did it with firepower and tactical genocide - here the liberal urban Yuppies do it with politics, lawyers, and money - all of which they seem to have plenty of at their disposal.

This is why most of Maine's Lobstermen and Fishermen have to commute considerable distances to the ocean from poorer inland communities in order to continue to try and eke out a living here. They simply can't afford to live near where the fish are any more.
Most of the piles of lobster traps and bouys you see near the shore are decorative window dressing for the mall outlets and resturants; to see the real thing you have to go way inland on the back - roads to where the people live in trailers and can have rusting pickup trucks next to the pink plasic flamingos out in th' dooryahd, and there's room t' pahk th' Lobstah Boat in th' Wintah'tyme.

(Ahy'-yuch)

Now even the taxes in those backwater 'skeeter swamps and frog - hollers are driving working people into furthur poverty and homelessness.

We're running out of sanctuaries to retreat to.

Maybe Baldacci will give us a nice little Reservation up North of Jackman or Eustis someplace, do ye suppose?

We have heard that over 22% of Maine HS Graduates are forced to leave Maine, to return if at all only for a visit.
They have no hope, no future here any more - and they know it.

A lot of aging Mainers get to know their Grandchildren by the photographs that their exiled offspring send... perhaps a little voice on the phone every now and again...

if at all.

Perhaps the kids will scrape together enough to come back to Maine...

For the funerals. At least one of 'em.

And how long will the remaining 78% of our Young People hang on before they too have to flee their Home State, we don't really know.

Too many, that's for bloody sure.

But we seem to have plenty of affluent Urban and indigent, dependant foriegn "Refugees" swarming in to take their places.
Funny thing; both of those populations tend to vote for the same Party, don't they?

Oh; now don't tell me that non-Citizens "can't vote" in Maine; we are now one of those "progressive" states where authorities are FORBIDDEN to even INQUIRE about a person's Citizenship status.

Gee; I wonder why THAT is, huh?

Of course, we wouldn't want to "offend" anybody by asking such embarassing questions at, of all places, the Polls, now would we?

I wonder how many Translators will have to be posted at the Portland & Lewison polls this year in order to assist the new "diverse" populations there in excersizing their "right" to elect our Leaders?

How many Union operatives will be on hand to help them to fill their ballots out "properly" after bussing them en masse to the Polls, do you suppose?

How many Absentee Ballots is the Post Office going to "lose" or "accidentally delay" until after the polls close THIS TIME?
Will the "Delayed" ballots seem to have a disproportionate number of return addresses of Registered Republican Voters AGAIN?
In the event of a re-count, will the Democraps absolutely control that process TOO?
(Remembering the VAMVAKIAS/BRENNAN Special Election not long ago which Bennan [D] won by, IIRC, about as many votes as the USPS "Delivered" him... by NOT DELIVERING Republican ballotts!!!)

About the only other thing we get to wonder about is how big a margin Kerry is going to carry Maine by in November.

It's pretty much a foregone conclusion, isn't it?

Looks to me like the Left has got Maine pretty well plucked, gutted out, and sewed up tight, ready for the oven.

Maine is a great place to visit, isn't it?

Too bad most of us can't afford to live here any more.

We only did the contested primary races. R or D. Remember, in Maine, oft times the D is more conservative and pro-life than the R. The last race in the second comes to mind. The re was Kevin Raye, a true pro-abortion Olympia Snowe clone, and Mike Michaud the D, Michaud has a 98% pro-life vote and voted to make the Presidents 10% tax bracket permanent.

We will be updating with reports from election places shortly, looks like a pretty good turnout.

If you don't see your senate or house district listed on Christian-news-in-maine.com than there is no primary battle in your district. But, you may want to go vote Yes on one just the same. And we were unable to get all the local stuff in time to put it up, so, I don't know if you have local issues on your ballot or not.

Re the RINOS being to the left, in many cases, of Dems; I hear ya!

I also alluded to that sad reality in my post - at least tried to.

Frankly, although I'm not in his District, I liked Michaud considerably more than Snowe's annointed weaslley RINO rumpswab, too.
Although we are told that for most issues, he has been generally loyal and true to the Hillary mandate in Washington - as we suppose that he'd best do if he knows what's good for him.

I'm also glad to see that my term "Snowe-Clone" seems to have caught on! (Need any other Pubbie even bother to apply for Federal Office from this State?)

Have not gone to polls here yet.
I speak English... will they even let me in?

Now where did I put that clothespin (for the NOSE!)?

Thanks for the tip on Christians Online; I had not thought of that resource. Probably AsMaineGoes has something too, eh?

Back a few years ago, Friend Rocklobster gave me some sage advice in regards to refferendum "Bond Issues";

"If it contains the word 'Million', then vote NO!"

And I've always voted accordingly since, as I shall this time as well, given the opportunity. Works for me.

Voted, but small turn out...my town of approximately 300 people had 60 mid afternoon. Other towns were reporting the same. I wonder if the telemarket style calls pushing for a cap in November kept voters away. The were pushing to stay away from the polls or vote No.

California fell because of the cap of 2%(?) set years back and Enron.

I voted too - looked like a fairly heavy turnout here though - the parking lot was full in the later afternoon when I went.

Since no Rs on the ballot were contested for the primaries, that part was pretty easy. There were a couple of them that I think might actually be pretty good Candidates.

When it got the the Town Counsel and School Committee, I didn't know any of the names on the ballot - so wrote in a couple of people I know who would antagonize the school cabal just by being there.

Friggem all.

You might know a lot more about Californa's History than I do, but I was under the impression that any tax cap they might have had was not nearly as much a problem to their economy as was Greyout Davis and his attempt to feed, clothe, educate, care for and entertain half the population of Mexico at the Taxpayer's expense.

Didn't they pass a tax refferendum that the Court simply nullified by edict, making the Democratic will of the People essentially moot? "Proposition XXX"-something (?)

I'm thinking that the 2% "cap" you mention might have been on energy prices - whereapon ENRON just pulled the switch on 'em and let them grope around in the dark for a while (?).

I really don't think that any so - called "Tax Cap" or initiative will go anyplace even if it does pass the refferendum - the liberal judiciary will just ball it up and pitch it in File #13, and to hades with us; just like they did in the People's Republik of Kalifornica!

The people in support of the 1% cap o the nov. ballot, say that it wasn't them. Sounds like something coming out of the moveon.org people. If you get any calls between now and next nov urgng a no vote and it comes from a group representing itslf to be for lower taxe, would you let us know?
