Los Angeles, CA (June 5, 2004) Screen Actors Guild (SAG) President Melissa Gilbert issued the following statement on the death of former President Ronald Reagan, who served as president of SAG from 1947 to 1952 and again from 1959 to 1960:
"Ronald Reagan presided over Screen Actors Guild at one of the most challenging moments in our union's history, as the rise of television significantly impacted the compensation and working conditions for the nation's screen actors. Under his tenure, SAG grew significantly in size and influence as the Guild tackled issues ranging from runaway production, to fair compensation, to unity in an increasingly complex industry all issues that remain timely to working actors today.
"It can be said that Ronald Reagan got his start in politics at Screen Actors Guild. He served as president of the union twice, from 1947 to 1952 and again from 1959 to 1960. While President Reagan's politics grew conservative over the years and, at times, at odds with the nation's labor movement, there can be no question that he devoted years of his life to advancing the wages, benefits and working conditions of his fellow actors. He leaves behind an enduring legacy to this industry, as he does to the country as a whole. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family today."
Is it possible that some union goon at SAG wrote the "tribute" and put it under Gilbert's nose to sign?
See my post 100. She is a liberal, and said so during her Joe Scarborough interview a few months back. But she's not a crazy or hateful one, which is so -expected- out of them now that people probably assumed she was Republican just by virtue of not sounding insane, lol.

I'm sorry to hear of your losses. Hopefully sharing your story will allow Wolfstart to stop his disgusting tirade and his attempts to embarass a fine President as we are about to bury him.
Well, I wasn't vomiting in anger after having read it, so I don't think it was that bad. Tons better than I would have thought would come from the SAG - even if President Reagan had been SAG president before.
There is no slap here. Gilbert is a very conservative Republican, which created some heat when she became president of the SAG. It's only natural she address Reagan and labor concerns, given that she is the head of a union, but it's not a slap. It's a matter-of-fact comment on Reagan.
Relax. We can't become like democrats and find phantom bogeymen behind every comment and in every shadow.
Now whose bias is keeping them from even admitting th truth?
Laura was the best character on the show. And I think we all need to lighten up a little.
Everyday I read something on the Internet I am convinced I've finally met the world's stupidest person. That is until I wake up the next morning and start reading again.
Cetainly a liberal, she donated to George Clooney's dad. I actually didn't find that statement that bad, especially when you look at some of the garbage over at Slate.

Actually, for SAG those statements are surprisingly complimentary. I have heard, that Melissa Gilbert, best known for her betrayal of Laura Ingalls on "Little House on the Prairie" is rather conservative.
Funny, Gilbert didn't mention that Reagan, while pres. of SAG, was the one who made sure actors were paid for reruns and syndicated shows. Before he was pres. of SAG, it was a one time payment only. There are hundreds of retired actors or hasbeen actors who thank God every day that RR was pres of SAG, plus Pres. of the US. They're still getting a paycheck and they're still eating. Sadly, because Libs control the industry, most conservative actors dare not speak out...they won't get hired. And that's another thing: With Jews basically controlling the entertainment industry, you'd think they'd want to promote Bush's policies. You know they want Israel to survive, but if the RATs get in, Israel will be in great danger. The RATS will sell them down the river asap.
I think we ought to go after battles that actually need fighting.... and the re-writing of a press release from SAG probably isn't one of those.
Evidentlty, we just need SAG to remove the word "while" from its press release.
See post #50
Yeah, I agree. There was nothing wrong with her statement. I can understand the rage some people here feel, that if anyone were willing to associate themselves with the word "liberal" then they must be insane. All I can say is, remember Zell Miller.
Now I'm not saying she's as good as Miller, for one I doubt she supported this war and she is probably -not- going to vote for Bush, but she is not the kind that dehumanizes conservatives either. She acknowledges that Hollywood is downright liberal -and- that conservatives do face discrimination there - she even insisted upon it when a fellow Hollywood communist was challenging her on it. She strikes me as a liberal who would actually listen to an argument from a conservative, she -is- capable of conceding points that do not favor her overall line, and she may still disagree with you at the end but you won't wind up -disgusted- as you would with so many out of Hollywood.
I know a few liberals like that. If most liberals were like that I could still have some -respect- for the Democrat party, even as I totally disagreed with them. But there are far too few unfortunately, and the Democrat Party on a general basis has lost my respect completely.

She is by no means a very conservative Republican. I saw her call herself liberal on Joe Scarborough and even address the conflicts between her and her husband, who IS a Republican (see my post 100), and she is actually a registered Democrat which is provable on the internet (see post 108), and she donates to Democrats (also on this thread).
That said, no, there was nothing wrong with her statement, and she's not an outrageous leftist. But calling her a "very conservative Republican" is also totally and completely wrong.

Some say that liberals are always trying to screw conservatives.
Conservative, Bruce Boxleiter, for one, is not complaining of the screwing he is getting from this liberal.
If I am wrong, I am wrong. I had been under the impression for years she was a Republican, and a conservative one at that. Live and learn!
Sounds ok to me.
Then produce it. It should be simple and it will get folks off of your back. Unless, of course, you enjoy having folks on your back....
