Thanks for posting. bump !
Thanks for posting, and thank you, PM Blair.
Did Tony's printer break down? I would've loaned him mine if just asked.
Dear Nancy,
I'm sorry to hear of your late husband's passing. He lived an extraordinary life and looked out for his country's welfare. Ron had a bond with the American people nearly as deep as the bond he shared through the decades you were married and built a life together.
Its a sad time for you and for the American people who are now mourning along with you. President Reagan will never be forgotten by this nation as long as it exists and his kindness, generosity, good humor and lifetime of service both as a private citizen and public official will always be remembered.
His sacrifice is ours as well as yours. His illness meant he couldn't share with the country he loved his thoughts but rest assured, they have been heard. The President is now in a better place free of pain and worry. Death is not the end of this life.
Ronald Reagan achieved great things and having gone to his eternal rest has the rewards of eternal life from our Heavenly Father. In this difficult time of both your family and our national grief, please know that you're not alone and that a wonderful man who was privileged to be our 40th President during a dramatic time in our nation's history, will always find a place in the hearts of a grateful nation.
Respectfully Yours,
I sent this condolence letter awhile ago. I wanted to say things that would give the Reagan family comfort and bring us all together in a difficult time when we have suffered such a loss. I hope it inspires every one who reads it to think of what our 40th President meant to our country.
The formatting of this letter completely bafflles me. Doesn't seem remotely worthy of a great nation.
It was one person talking to another person, not one nation speaking to another nation. I think that fact that it is personal and heartfelt makes it better. There is plenty of opportunity yet for formality.
I doubt it's the one actually sent. Somebody at Downing probably posted a draft. I received a form letter reply from Tony and it was elegant.
That would make a bit of sense. I doubt he would let this out, as is.
