Reporters who regularly slammed Ronald Reagan while he was president are quietly seething now that they're forced to mouth platitudes about the man's greatness, former Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan said Sunday night.
"[Journalists] are willing, over the next few days, to concede what is so obvious that they have to concede it - his personal goodness, etc.," Noonan told Matt Drudge on his radio show.
But with a solid week of commemorations for the conservative icon still ahead, liberal reporters will barely be able to contain themselves, she predicted.
"I'll bet they start pulling a few political [stunts] - kind of letting their biases out a little bit more. And I'll tell you, there's going to be an explosion next weekend [after Reagan is buried].
"That will mean that the elite journalistic media will have gone through seven days of talking kindly about Reagan," said Noonan. "I would say that by next Friday night, they're going to blow."
Maybe he farted?
Picked up the paper this morning, read the first few lines of the article on Reagan. It started with "Like him or not...", and the next sentence had the phrase "for better or worse...". I stopped reading, and put the paper back on the stack.
What am I thinking. Colonic, the Hildabeast, and P'lousy are going to use this a a knock down drag out cage match to see who can take the title of "Queen of Class" after their "tribute" statements about President Reagan. Democrat speech writers and spin doctors are probably burning the midnight oil right now. Should be an epic world class crocodile tears off.
All I can say is, PresBush best watch out. After a week of accolades for Reagan, the partisan media will be ready to pick up their attacks on Bush with a vengence.
Will do..
Another Noonan ping
The New York Slimes Editorial Board. Jayson Blair. Same difference --- they are all liars.
You could see the Slimes was going down this path by comparing the Sunday front pages of the New York and other papers. The New York tabloids (New York Post, Daily News and Newsday) all had a nice picture of President Reagan on their full front pages. The Washington Times devoted their full front page to President Reagan. Other papers, like the Hartford Courant and Miami Herald, devoted most of the front page above the fold to the former President.
The New York Times didn't even have a full banner headline about his death. They only had a three-column headline (half the page). Under the headline was a nice picture of the former President and very long article about his death and legacy. But the article itself only took up ONE column on the front page before continuing elsewhere. Directly to the left of President Reagan's picture was a "news" story on.... THE PRISON ABUSE SCANDAL. I say a "news" story because it really was an article masquerading as "news analysis", claiming people on the Hill, including Republicans, are not satisfied with the military's investigation of prison abuse in Iraq and Afghanistan. But this "news" story got about as much front page text as President Reagan's death. It got worse. Directly below President Reagan's picture was a story about.... World reaction to President Reagan's death? NOT! "Potential Kerry Running Mates Vie to Sing His Praises Loudest".
Shepherd Smith is the type of guy you'd like to buy for what he's worth and sell him for what he thinks he's worth. He's probably my least favorite on FOX.
Well from that photo montage it's clear which papers in NYC have the most and the LEAST class.
Honestly...I'm VERY surprised the Times didn't just give him a 3 line death notice in the obit section and call it a day.
If it wouldn't break my tv to tune into the stupid Today show, I'd watch her tomorrow just to see if she's wearing black.
Sorry Peggy, they already blow!
I have no doubt that the old guy is sitting in heaven right now, reading their minds and taking gentle amusement at their discomfort.
"Oh, well...that's just them...."
I apologize tht I didn't remember your name to give you the proper credit for point out that thing about Dan Rather.
Yeah I agree the lefty media is gonna be in a foul mood after a week of accolades for President Reagan. They'll be loaded for bear and looking for W.
LOL! I love how The Gipper is still driving liberals up the wall now that he's departed this Earth.
Hey Seven...you're always pretty good at finding out what the foreign wires are reporting. What are they saying about the death of Pres. Reagan?
Bump
It's either that or he's repeating what he said to Jimmuh...
