Noonan: Reagan Commemoration Driving Media Nuts
NewsMax.com ^ | 07 June 2004 | Staff Reports

Posted on 06/06/2004 9:47:26 PM PDT by txradioguy

Reporters who regularly slammed Ronald Reagan while he was president are quietly seething now that they're forced to mouth platitudes about the man's greatness, former Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan said Sunday night.

"[Journalists] are willing, over the next few days, to concede what is so obvious that they have to concede it - his personal goodness, etc.," Noonan told Matt Drudge on his radio show.

But with a solid week of commemorations for the conservative icon still ahead, liberal reporters will barely be able to contain themselves, she predicted.

"I'll bet they start pulling a few political [stunts] - kind of letting their biases out a little bit more. And I'll tell you, there's going to be an explosion next weekend [after Reagan is buried].

"That will mean that the elite journalistic media will have gone through seven days of talking kindly about Reagan," said Noonan. "I would say that by next Friday night, they're going to blow."

"It is as true today as it was 40 years ago."

Everything I've read from President Reagan...and I've been following him since I was a 6th grader in 1981...STILL can and should apply today.

Dan is a bit of an emotional flake. I'm frankly surprised that he doesn't tear up every time he is on the air.

I always half expect Dan to start crying in the middle of reports on interest rate adjustments or college enrollment trends.

Oh, it's starting all right. If you have a very strong stomach, take a look at Monday's New York Slimes editorial:

It's a day late and too disgusting for me to post. Accentuate the negative. Minimize the positive.

Plus this and the D-Day stories are sure going to cramp the libs style pushing their precious Abu Grabass stories to later pages and segments, where it should have been to begin with.

I was talking to my dad this weekend, and suggested that by mid-Tuesday the veneer would crack.

Anyone want to start a pool? ;)

I am pinging governs...as he is the stalwart reporter on what the latest Katie outrage is...He does it so we don't have to. I wonder how she'll handle Reagan's legacy?

I was just thinking about Katie Colonic too--I'll bet she has Lauer open the show because she can't bring herself to say anything positive about him. Commie Katie's perfectly transparent and tomorrow it will be all she can do to contain her hostility. We know how she'd rather open the show...remember her gleeful "The Gipper is an Airhead" after DUTCH was published....

We haven't even had his funeral and the NY Slimes is already trying to re-write his legacy.

Disgusting.

Who wrote that POS? Jayson Blair?

It has be REALLY nice not to hear about the over reported Abu Ghraib thingy.

But why do I have a feeling that the Perky One and the rest of the lefty media will have some line tomorrow like "While the nation mourns the loss of President Reagan...the investigation into the Abu Ghraib prison scandal continues..."

Mark my words they will do their best to give Reagan's death a shorter news cycle than Nick Berg.

Personally, I'm not going to watch most of it. I already know what to expect and there's really no point in seeing the libs squint and squirm and pretend to be nice throughout it. I'll record what Rush has to say tomorrow (if he's even there) and, when I have to watch, I'll tune in Fox but, frankly, I don't see the need.

But I'm holding off calls for the libs to act with dignity and respect, first because I believe many aren't capable of it and, secondly, because I don't want to dampen my own celebration when it's Clinton's turn. Let them show their true colors and, I, in turn, will show mine.

It's obvious that in addition to being a biased liberal, Rather is completely unstable.
