Sitting right here at my computer,
when admiralsn and Meek both
posted to me that he had died.
Yep. I was sitting here Freepin' away with FOX News Channel on (as usual) when Jim Angle (I think it was him) came on and said they had a breaking report from the AP. He read it. Said that RR had passed away. I am still numb. Like in shock, although I had been trying to ready myself the last 2 years for this news. :^(
Here's where we posted to you:http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1147891/posts?page=858#858

I was sitting with thousands of people who loved Reagan. I was at the Texas Republican State Convention. They called us back from recess and when all were seated they told us. Then had his picture and the dates God bless his family and Thank God that we had this great president.

I live and work in Baghdad. I was asleep when it happened because it was sometime after midnight here.
I heard about it about ten minutes after leaving my living quarters this morning at around 7 a.m. from a friend and co-worker.
I had to excuse myself and go back into my living quarters for a few minutes to be alone.
The first thing I remembered was "Tear down this wall!!" Then the memories came flooding back. What a great leader he was.

I had just returned from lunch when I heard it. I am still in shock and mourning. May God Bless Reagan and may his soul find eternal peace.

I just realized that we had both posted it within about 30 seconds of each other. I was trying to find what info I could, when my little girl came in to tell me. I saw another thread that mentioned it being on ABC, so I turned on my TV (this one next to the computer only gets NBCCBSABC) and it was confirmed. I have thought for years what a sad day it would be to get this news, I have admired and respected this man so much. It is like losing a grandfather all over again.

Watching golf on CBS when Dan Rather broke in with the news.

Thanks. :-)
While I mostly don't miss the leftist-media-barrage, I kind of wish I could be watching all the tributes to the great man.
I saw some of it on Face the Nation this evening over at the chow hall and found it very poignant and moving. Everyone was pretty quiet and just watching, when it is usually rather boisterous in there.

I was pampering my Belmont thread, watching TV and bouncing back to the main page for updates. The "This is it" thread got me expecting the worst. Sue enough, on a bounce back to the main page, a few minutes later, his death was confirmed. I expected it quickly after the first reports, but not that quickly. Sad day.

My wife and I are realtors and we were out driving by some properties for a client when the news came down. We were listening to the radio when the bulletin theme came on. I told my wife that President Reagan must have passed away. She said "how do you know that?". I told her I had seen reports on the web saying that he was rapidly failing. She said he must hve meant alot to you (we married only about two years ago and she doesn't know lots about me for the past 40+ years). I told her that he was one of my hero's that I had gone door to door and drove around in a car with a speaker system making announcements while driving through neighborhoods.
We live in the Columbus, OH area.

After the announcement we all stood quietly as "Amazing Grace" was played.

Yep. You were the FIRST one on that thread to post the sad news. I was second right after your post. We BOTH posted it to onyx, too. I think a LOT of folks on FR feel that same way about Uncle Ronnie. I know I do. Yesterday, I was numb and it didn't really sink in until this morning reading some of the posts on his passing. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks. It rained on my keyboard for a little while very early this morning. :^(

I was on my way to Saturday evening Mass. I was not totally surprised as I had heard on the radio about 2 hours earlier that his children had come to be at his side because he had taken a turn for the worse.

I had just logged off of FR, went into the bathroom to get ready to go out, and turned on the radio. There was a commercial on my conservative station, so I turned on public radio. I heard the news from the BBC in the bathroom.
Back at the conservative station, David Gold wasn't talking about it, so I went back to the BBC and listened to quite a bit of coverage on it. I then listened to Barbara Simpson. I ended up going out much later than I planned.
