For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
June 5, 2004
Remarks by the President Upon the Death of President Ronald Reagan
Ambassador's Residence
Paris, France
12:41 A.M. (Local)
THE PRESIDENT: This is a sad hour in the life of America. A great American life has come to an end. I have just spoken to Nancy Reagan. On behalf of our whole nation, Laura and I offered her and the Reagan family our prayers and our condolences.
Ronald Regan won America's respect with his greatness, and won its love with his goodness. He had the confidence that comes with conviction, the strength that comes with character, the grace that comes with humility, and the humor that comes with wisdom. He leaves behind a nation he restored and a world he helped save.
During the years of President Reagan, America laid to rest an era of division and self-doubt. And because of his leadership, the world laid to rest an era of fear and tyranny. Now, in laying our leader to rest, we say thank you.
He always told us that for America, the best was yet to come. We comfort ourselves in the knowledge that this is true for him, too. His work is done, and now a shining city awaits him. May God bless Ronald Reagan.
END 12:43 A.M. (Local)
This is one hard thing for Dubya to have to do.
God Bless President Bush. It just leaves us all in tears. What a moving tribute to the dearly departed President Reagan. In my opinion, this sad duty is our President's finest hour.
Here the man has died. He brought an end to communism. He lowered taxes. He was a good and decent man. How C-Span can allow ugly phone calls, on the very day this man has died, is beyond me.
Sometimes I despair. The haters are taking over the country.
Much as I dislike Clinton, and with good cause considering his selling of national security secrets to China and North Korea, I must remember never to act like the leftists. They are ugly people, down to their very souls.
Steely,
Me too. What beautiful thoughts....
Zot
We should all e-mail Tony Snow and point out what time it was during the remarks that Dubya made and that he chose to do it while it was still "today" over here, even though it was "tomorrow" and in the middle of the Effin night where Bush spoke from.
By all means, call Snow an Effin prig while you are at it.
"Government is not the solution, it's the problem."
I don't hate President Clinton. Never did. Revile him, yes. But in the long reach of things, Clinton will be a footnote in history. He isn't worth the energy it takes to hate him. On the other hand, Ronald Reagan already towers over world history in a way only a handful of others ever have or will. His was a most warm and optimistic spirit. We who walk in his footsteps and carry forward his legacy must keep our chins up and avoid gutter politics now.
Yes, Wolfstar. That's well stated.
I will admit, during the last few years of Clinton's term, I found myself hating him. I think it was fear. Fear of what he was doing to the country.
In the future, I must remember not to let "them" make me something I'm not and that's a hater.
Yeah, it was a very small-minded thing for Snow to say. The context was that the panel was talking about Reagan as the Great Communicator. They were also talking about how the current President is, politically speaking, more an heir of Ronald Reagan than his own father. Snow apparently thought that one way to draw a distinction between Reagan and GWB was to diss the current President's formal remarks. Snow was wrong.
amen. good bye RR :(
Never...Ever lose your Natural, God Given Optimism.

I sent Brit/Tony a litte note about it.
I thought the comment was uncalled for. Actually .. if Bush had made it personal, the dems would have said Bush was trying to politicize the death of Reagan.
Bush is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't, and I'm just sick of the second-guessing these media people do .. even Tony.
Maybe so .. but this connection to Reagan is GREAT for America. I've heard person after person making a great parallel between some of Reagan's qualities and Bush's. That can only be good for Bush - and the best part - THE DEMS WILL HATE IT!! LOL!
I couldn't agree with you more,Wolfstar! I was annoyed! I thought Snow's remarks were completely offbase!
Thank God that Ronald lasted until Bill Clinton left office. I couldn't imagine a state funeral presided over by the sink-emporer. God bless Ronald Reagan.
I know. The Left does not represent the majority of the people of this country. God Bless President Reagan and God Bless America.
I hope his email box stays on overload for a week because of this stupid remark. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
My thoughts exactly!
WOW..What beautiful words...I'm a bit choked up.
God bless Ronnie.
