Remarks by the President Upon the Death of President Ronald Reagan

Paris, France

 

 

12:41 A.M. (Local)

THE PRESIDENT: This is a sad hour in the life of America. A great American life has come to an end. I have just spoken to Nancy Reagan. On behalf of our whole nation, Laura and I offered her and the Reagan family our prayers and our condolences.

Ronald Regan won America's respect with his greatness, and won its love with his goodness. He had the confidence that comes with conviction, the strength that comes with character, the grace that comes with humility, and the humor that comes with wisdom. He leaves behind a nation he restored and a world he helped save.

During the years of President Reagan, America laid to rest an era of division and self-doubt. And because of his leadership, the world laid to rest an era of fear and tyranny. Now, in laying our leader to rest, we say thank you.

He always told us that for America, the best was yet to come. We comfort ourselves in the knowledge that this is true for him, too. His work is done, and now a shining city awaits him. May God bless Ronald Reagan.

Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free. Don't allow the media to spin Reagans death as they did his life. Go to the FR Reagan Vigils post and pledge to organize or attend a vigil in your area.

This makes me sick to see the people that hated the man. Talk like he was a buddy. Thank God for Fox News at least they are on his side. I have avoided the news so far but did turn to Fox.

I don't think we will ever see another President like Ronald Reagan. I am desperately praying for one.

Jesus smiled on Reagan during his life, now He is greeting Reagan with a hearty handshake and a hug, saying,"Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter in to your reward."

I have avoided the news so far but did turn to Fox.

We don't have Fox News here, so we've been watching Peter Jennings. He's actually been wonderful in his coverage. I didn't pick up anything negative.

I caught the Fox News panel discussion immediately after the audio of GWB's remarks were first released. Tony Snow sniffed that the remarks weren't personal. I'll forever hold that whiny complaint against Snow. What did he expect? GWB is the current President of the United States. As such, he must strike a formal tone in public because he isn't speaking for himself, personally, but for the entire nation. Sheesh!

I remember standing in line to vote for the first time for RR. I was 19. Didn't actuall know much about RR. Just kew Carter was a loser, not a leader. That's when I started paying attention to politics. RR turned out to be a whale of a leader. I loved having him as my President.

We could be proud again, and RR was not afraid to go kick some butt in the world when butt needed to be kicked.

I am so sad. I didn't think it would hit me this hard. Even though I knew it was near, its still hit me like a ton of bricks.

I am so tired of the complainers, including those on FNC.

Oh, Lord, Peach. You and me both. I briefly tuned in to C-SPAN after the news broke to hear what their callers had to say. The venom spewing from the Leftists was just too much for me to endure. The powers that be at C-SPAN really should be ashamed of themselves for not screening out the worst of the venomous callers. No one loves free speech more than me, but there is a line of simply human decency that should be respected at such times.
