The long goodbye has ended Mr. President Reagan, but to me your election as President in 1980 was a wonderful hello. You gave the country the optimism and vigor to overcome the problems the nation was suffering at the time. It was through your strength that we found strength in ourselves to overcome those obstructions in our way and move forward.Dane, we disagree quite often, but I must say this post was outstanding.

Ronald Reagan was the best president ever. Rest in Peace and God Bless America.

Speaking of diehard Leftists, the venom spewing from them againstPresident Reagan when C-SPAN opened their phone lines today after the announcement was breathtaking. We simply MUST NOT let that life-long Leftist, John Kerry, anywhere near the presidency this fall.

IIRC, brian williams worked in the Carter administration, he probably will never get over his bitterness over the Gipper's victory over President malaise. No, he worked for Bush senior, but he's a homosexual, and Reagan wouldn't throw money at their plague.

Just saw the CBS tribute.
If only we had someone with as sharp a wit today...

James Baker just told the story about Bishop Tutu and Reagan's response to all the hubbub. "Bishop Tutu? So so."

I was just watching it as well. In fact (revealing age) I actually remember one of the Big 3 Nightly News shows playing that clip, and laughing at the line.

(John Kerry never saw a TAX he wouldn't HIKE !!!)
I read this statement about Reagan from Justice Scalia on another thread, "He was shamelessly patriotic and infectiously optimistic."
I think this is Reagan's legacy to me - Optimism about this country and about what we can do as Americans. As a former lefty, it was so easy to see the down side of everything, to think that we are failures or about to fail at what ever we do when the exact opposite is true.
I have a much more optimistic view of our country and am a much happier person as a conservative than I ever was as a liberal.

Your comment bears repeating:

What an epitaph!

Allow me to misquote the Simpsons:
GREATEST. PRESIDENT. EVER. God bless you Ronnie. The thrill of my life was meeting you when I was 12 years old. From that moment on, you had a great fan.
