ICDC Soldiers Assume Security in Khalidiyah
KHALIDIYAH, Iraq - Soldiers from the Army's 34th Armored Regiment, serving as part of the 1st Marine Division force in Al Anbar Province, turned over authority of Combat Outpost Killeen to a local Iraqi battalion June 1.
The 502nd Battalion of the Iraqi Civil Defense Corps assumed responsibility for security in the city in a ceremony at the base. The battalion's five companies will all be assigned to protect critical structures and locations throughout Khalidiyah. They will also be tasked to root out terrorists.

Iraqi Police Capture Known Terrorist
Baghdad, Iraq Iraqi Police Forces detained Umar Baziyani, a known terrorist and murder suspect, on May 30 here.
Baziyani, an associate of terrorist leader Abu Musab al Zarqawi, is known to have ties to several extremist terrorist groups in Iraq and is believed to be responsible for the death and injury of scores of innocent Iraqi citizens. Authorities say Baziyani is also wanted in connection with anti-Coalition activities.
Baziyani remains in detention and is providing information to coalition forces. His capture removes one of Zarqawis most valuable officers from his network. Release #040604e |
Two Iraqis Detained Following Attack
TIKRIT, Iraq - Two Iraqis were detained following an indirect fire attack on a U.S. patrol near Abayach around 8:30 p.m. June 3.
The patrol detained the two near the point where the attack originated. The pair were taken to a nearby Coalition base where one tested positive for traces of explosives.
Both are being detained for questioning.

Iraqi Citizen's Tip Leads Soldiers to Weapons Cache
KIFRI, Iraq - Acting on information from an Iraqi citizen, Task Force Danger Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 252nd Armor Regiment found a weapons cache near here around 9 a.m. May 28.
The cache contained a machine gun, a mortar tube, nearly 3,000 rounds of assault rifle and machinegun ammunition, 12 rocket-propelled grenades, and 23 mortar rounds.
The cache was moved to a military holding area for later destruction.

Marines Contract in Fallujah for Several Projects
CAMP FULLUJAH, Iraq - Marines selected several contractors here for key upcoming projects.
Marines signed three contractors to complete $500,000 worth of work on the Al Sakaniyah Apartment project.
Additionally, Marines awarded:
-A $77,000 contract to repair the Al Rhama mosque;
-A $45,000 contract for the Wadi al Akik School project;
-A $45,000 contract to repair a Highway Patrol Police Station. Release #040604a |

I think before too long they will not be able to ignore the good stuff. We are handing over authority at the end of this month. There are leaders in place until the elections in January. Iraqi oil is back to pre-war production(from what I read yesterday). Libya is even sending oil to the U.S. I believe we are seeing more Iraqis admitting that they are hopeful for the future. The 7 guys that we fitted with robotic hands...the list goes on and on. The media is going to end up looking like the idiots that they are and they are realizing that they can no longer fool the average American. I say we have a lot to look forward to.
