Rebel flags may cost pair diplomas

GRAND BLANC - Bringing flags bearing the Confederate insignia to school could cost two Grand Blanc High School seniors their diplomas.

School administrators met Thursday to determine the fates of the two students and a third who was involved in an altercation sparked by the flags. School officials wouldn't announce the outcome of the meeting.

The Confederate flag has sparked a heated debate at the school about whether it's simply a symbol of the South or one of racial discrimination and slavery.

The two students who brought the flags to school Wednesday said there's nothing racist about the Confederate flag. They said it represents Southern pride, among other things, although one of the students said he wanted to apologize to peers who were offended.

inasmuch as JFK was the POTUS who requested that the dixie flag fly over the SC statehouse, i have a hard time believing that ANYONE then thought our battleflag was racist.

Okay TROLL, let's get it straight: NOBODY who speaks as you do can claim to be "Southern by the Grace of God!" You can claim to be southern by location or parentage, or anything but God's Grace. And I seriously doubt that many true southerners will be agreeing with you unless they got LIBERAL yankee blood in 'em someplace; or unless they have been infected with a liberal yankee teacher in a "southern" public school.

For your information, clymer, I have been a "troop" and a leader of troops. I support the war and I still support the troops. If they don't support their own eforts, why is the reenlistment rate the highest it's been in history? We've made our re-up goals six months into the year and new enlistments (despite what the liberals say) are up across the board as well.

The goal is not for all of them to come home safe and sound. That'd be real nice, but it's not the nature of war. The goal is the accomplishment of the mission, just as it's been the goal of every military force since Alexander the Great. The job IS getting done and believe it or not, casualties have been pretty low. I think we've lost just about a thousand in the last year. By comparison, in WWII we were losing 2500 per WEEK. It's also about a fifth of what we were losing annually in 'Nam. Go trolling elsewhere, maybe with the DU's. Because in a Battle of Wits here on Free Republic, you're unarmed.
