KERRY SUPPORTS FCC INDECENCY CRACKDOWN; CITES 'FAMILY TIME'
Fri Jun 4, 2004 12:32:11 ET
In an interview set for broadcast Sunday on C-SPAN, presidential hopeful John Kerry says he supports the current FCC crackdown on television indecency, but comes out against the greater scrutiny of pay cable channels like HBO and Showtime.
"I think there is a distinction between public broadcast and the notions we've had historically about family time, family hour -- and what you buy privately and personally."
"I am not in favor of government interference and censorship and restriction of what an individual privately can decide to do in their home, in their own space, so to speak," Kerry said, but he did seem to be OK with indecency regulation "where you have children involved, where you have a broader cross-section of the public, where there is sort of a sense of family time or hour."
On media concentration:
"I wasn't there for the vote, but I was 100% in favor of overturning this rule.
"I think that too much media in the hands of one powerful entity or one individual is a mistake. I think it runs counter to the foundation of our country. I think it runs counter to the need for Americans to know what they are getting news and information from multiple sources that are not singularly controlled."
On the Janet Jackson Super Bowl 'nipple' incident:
"I thought that was in poor taste and wrong -- wrong venue, wrong timing, wrong place, wrong audience. So, there are some standards and pretty generally people should know what they are."
Developing...
He should first make sure his daugher wears sufficient undergarments.
The media know this is just lip service - if Kerry were to be elected, this would just fade away.
And dont be surprised if you suddenly hear John Kerry, the now-leading Democratic candidate, chime in with a roar of indignation about our displeasure with the pathetic indecent display sponsored by AOL. Guess who is John Kerrys second all-time contributor? Time Warner, just under Kerry #1 contributor (a law firm) and just above the Kerry #3 contributor (a law firm).
"I asked Janet to cover her nipple - only after requesting her to expose it to me so I could take a look at it to determine whether it was offensive"
Yeah but, in all seriousness, Howard Stern abandoned Bush and hopped on the Kerry bandwagon over the FCC thing. He'll be forced to turn to Nader now.
"KERRY SUPPORTS FCC INDECENCY CRACKDOWN"
What about using the "F" word in Rolling Stone magazine?
Or flipping the bird at that Vietenam vet in front of those school kids?
Screw the FCC freedom grabbers(What in the blue hell is considered "indecency?") and Screw the freedom grabber Kerry.

"But, sir, the FCC regulates broadcasting. Rolling Stone is a magazine, which is an entirely different thing, and therefore subject to different laws, rules, and regulations...
How much did the cable companies contribute?

Yeah but, in all seriousness, Howard Stern abandoned Bush and hopped on the Kerry bandwagon over the FCC thing. He'll be forced to turn to Nader now.
It really shows how tone-deaf the Kerry campaign is.
Theyve been trying to develop a voice on the radio that can generate huge ratings bashing Bush. Franken and Garafolo are just the latest failures in that department.
Stern, because of the FCC crackdown, turned, almost overnight, into that monster attack dog theyve been looking for.
Now, they effectively slapped him in the face and rebuked his efforts.
He has no choice but to support Nader now. Janet Jackson's nipple has more brains than that campaign.
"...On the Janet Jackson Super Bowl 'nipple' incident:
"I thought that was in poor taste and wrong -- wrong venue, wrong timing, wrong place, wrong audience. So, there are some standards and pretty generally people should know what they are." ..."
Did he think his own daughter was in poor taste when she showed the whole world her not just one, but two nipples?
Does that mean a crackdown on the media, the same media which was the place where millions of young children were treated to doses of Clinton's "oral sex is not sexual relations"?
"I wasn't there for the vote, but I was 100% in favor of overturning this rule.
And all along, I've had this silly notion that Senators were supposed to actually represent their states by VOTING. But, I guess he can now flip-flop on this issue without any record getting in the way.
If you're 100% for something don't you think you should be there to vote for it.
Hmmm. F-bomb in Rolling Stone, Flipped the bird in front of kids, Daughter incident. Yeah John Kerry knows the time and place for decency.
Guess Janet isn't rich enough for Johnny boy.
This is the I was for decency before I was against it. My brain gets warped reading this idiot's lies.
