I am troubled by the fact that within 24 hours two things have occurred: the resignation of the CIA Director and the ABC report of the President's contact with a private attorney. I am particularly troubled that the resignation seems to have been sudden, with no leaks and no succession plan. On the other hand, if the Chalabi raid and leaks were orchestrated by the CIA without White House knowledge, that in itself could be reason enough for W to suggest Tenet's departure.

I think it will be Rudy. If not, I hope it's Porter Goss.

It won't be Rudy. We're in a war that absolutely depends on accurate intelligence. W needs a guy who already knows how to run an intel organization. Porter Goss is a better choice, but again he's not an intel guy, but rather an intel recipient. My prediction is Gen. Ralph Eberhardt, currently commander of the Northern Command.

And, very conveniently, I see that Gen. Eberhardt retired last week.

Turner was just on TV, gleefully casting doom and gloom. Jerk.

#1. There is ZERO evidence that Tenet doesn't like the president.

#2. There is ZERO evidence that Tenet isn't loyal to the administration.

#3. There is AMPLE evidence that Tenet disliked and distrusted the Clinton administration.

#4. There is AMPLE evidence that Tenet resented how the Clinton administration DID NOT GO AFTER TERRORISTS, despite the majority of attacks occurring on Clinton's watch.

Bets on how long before he writes an anti Bush book anyone?

He probably has it written already. He obvioulsy had a lot of time on his hands while he was busy ignoring national security. My guess: His book will hit the stands in October.

On Capitol Hill, Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., called Tenet "an honorable and decent man who has served his country well in difficult times, and no one should make him a fall guy for anything."

Thus begins the Democratic spin. Despite Tenet's claim that he's resigning for personal reasons, the Dems will spin it that he's the "fall guy" for the horrible mess the Bush administration has gotten us into.

All the pols left and right will issue the usual bromides for the next day or two. But we will soon see the Bush-bashing regarding this, and we will soon see Tenet cash in, go on 60 minutes, hawk a book blaming Bush, etc. Mark my words.

As a fiscal CONSERVATIVE, I've always had respect for John McCain.

Don't bother. He is as much a duplicitous charlatan and rogue on those issues as he is on campaign finance reform. His position on the KC-135 tanker replacement (40-year-old planes), where he made a big stink over the Boeing 767 lease-to-own plan, so that his under-the-table buddies at AirBus could steal the remainder of America's dwindling aerospace business...will cost lives and U.S. treasure. AirBus will cost at least as much...and probably far higher, take twice as long to get deployed when they were needed yesterday, and due to inexperience, produce a mongrel design which will blow up.

I see you're not up to speed on the *facts* regarding the story and instead rely on liberal talking points.

Even worse, that one spreads falsehoods as fact!

you actually believe that Tenet woke up this morning, and after agreeing not to leave on previous occassions, he woke up and decided to leave today because of personal and financial reasons, 150 days before the election?

try and stay on topic here - enough of this "liberal" stuff.

If were gonna put on the tinfoil hats, then maybe Chalabi was set up because he was getting to be a problem.

I would rather see Cheney leave the VP to take over the CIA than EVER considering McCain. The man is about as stable as Howard Dean.

Now Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC saying "Frankly, if he really wanted to leave for personal reasons--and we haven't had a long time to investigate to report on this--he would have done so long ago".

Another gem from the smug Andrea: Whatever problems at the CIA, it is ultimately the president's decisions that affect the agency so HE should be held responsible, not the CIA director, so if this was done to "take the heat off", it won't.

Thanks to Ms. Mitchell, we have been handed the first crude direction the talking points will take.
