its how the media spins it - reality means nothing. 95% of Americans don't even know who Tenet is.

I like that idea.

That's what I think - Rudy would sail through confirmation.

Bush couldn't get rid of civil servants, many of whom had their status changed in the days before Clinton left office.

Clinton left a lot of timebombs for Bush and making thousands of employees civil servants at the last minute is just one of those timebombs.

Simmer away. I've thought for over a year that if either Tenet, Mueller, or ashcroft resigned, Giuliani would be the best replacement

He'd be brilliant :-)

ROFLMAO - the DUers think this means the end of the Bush Administration.

So do a lot of malcontents on this site; they're hoping Bush isn't reelected.

I agree with you Peach, President Bush has been very, very loyal to Tenet and I'd be shocked if he turned on the President. He could have tossed this whole thing on Tenet's back and most everyone in the country would have agreed, but he didn't, he stood by him. I don't think Tenet will forget that.

It could be just about anything, including the incredible stress, or the back biting within the agency, or it could actually be because of something within his family.

Nobody cares who runs the CIA. This is inside baseball, that will be spun by the media and cable channels, no doubt.

But, it will have ZERO effect on the election.

So, we're in the middle of a war. We've been warned about the possibility of incoming this summer or fall. And Tenet decides to bug now? For personal reasons?

Okaaaaaay.....

Have people already forgetten how Tenet did his best to stick it to Bush during the whole 'yellowcake' scandalette? And who does everyone think demanded the whole Plame investigation knowing full well exactly where it was going to lead?

We shall see..

I think this has something to do with the Chalabi smear.

Not that Tenet personally directed it, but that he was in charge of people who did (or who abetted it -- I think it's State who have their hands most dirty).

Bush may be sincere in his 'regrets' -- Tenet probably realized the gig was up, and, having at least some honor, knew this was the last straw.

OK, good: Time to clean house at CIA. And even more so the Augean stables over at State.

I think you are absolutely wrong.

There is NO indication that Tenet will work with or for Kerry or that he is disloyal to the president.

I would be astounded if Tenet wrote a book or spoke out against the president.

This is a good development for the following reasons:

1) It will distract from the prison scandal -- which the public will begin to forget about

2) It will be seen as a sign that the president is holding people accountable for perceived intelligence failures.

3) Tenet likes Bush personally (far, far better than he liked Clinton) and is more likely to write a Clinton-bashing book that a Bush-bashing book.

4) Confirmation hearings are a great way for the GOP to showcase Democrat obstructionism and shrillness -- which will not play well with the public.

5) Confirmation hearings will distract from the Dem Convention anddraw public attention, reducing any "bounce" Kerry would normally get -- because coverage will be reduced.

All and all, this is VERY good news.

IT'S ABOUT FREAKING TIME!

Finally Bush can put someone in there who'll give him support instead of Tenet, who we all know is democrat. Now, the only thing I'm worried about is he'll do something to derail Bush's re-election bid.

What do you all think?

You are correct this will be spun in an anti-Bush fashion.

Now how many months will the confirmation of his replacement drag on due to RAT footdragging?

Actually this post should not be political and its occupant should serve for a six year term so as to overlap administrations. Like the Fed Reserve Chairman's job.
