Neighborhood Hit By Acid Bomb Attacks
Local6 ^

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- Two acid bombs exploded Monday night in a Coral Springs neighborhood that has seen a series of explosions in the past two days.

Eight acid bombs have gone off since Monday in three subdivisions in the city; Glenwood, Kensington and Westview. Seven blew up in mailboxes, but Monday night, the eighth exploded in the personal car, a Ford Explorer of a Broward Sheriff's Office deputy.

Police are not saying who they think may be behind the acid bombings.

"Our biggest concern right now is safety to people who might find these. They're in clear plastic bottles, usually soda-type bottles or water bottles. They are dangerous because they are so volatile," said Rich Nicorvo of the Coral Springs Police Department.

No one has been hurt in any of the attacks. Police urge anyone who sees a bottle filled with fluid in their mailbox not to touch it. They should call 911 and let the police handle it.

Hmmmm, I wonder if these are baking soda and vinegar "bombs" they are so "concerned" about?

Toilet bowl cleaner and tin foil, harmless unless you drink it or rubb it all over yourself.

Drano, a piece of aluminum foil, water.

Seal the bottle, shake, and run like hell.

Actually, skip the shake and just run.

Sounds like the HCL and Aluminum bombs I used to make...er...my FRIENDS used to make as kids.

BIG boom, and they can be dangerous if you're near them when they go off...

The worst was when you didn't quite put enough aluminum foil in and the bottle got stretched way out but didn't explode.

No one wanted to be the one to go retrieve it, so we shot it with BB guns. Ahhh, great fun...

I think it is foolish to put the recipe to make a bomb in the forum.

WOODBRIDGE, N.J. -- Police believe an incident Saturday night in which a chlorine-filled bottle exploded after being thrown into a bar is related to three similar episodes in the Iselin area over the weekend, according to a published report. Woodbridge police have labeled the incident at the Pioneer Tavern a crime of terrorism involving chemical weapons, the Home News Tribune of East Brunswick reported in Wednesday's editions. A water bottle containing chlorine was thrown through an open window into the bar at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, police said.

A terrorist trained wasp chased me back into the house when I went out to check the mailbox yesterday.

He was cunning....and vicious....and dead after I sprayed that bug killer all over him.

A local kid was charged with terrorism when he made one of those recently. Just a kid, screwing around, and now he is a terrorist.

My son would have been locked up for life (by someone other than me) after the black powder bomb he and his buddy made and set off next to our house about 10 years ago. Mr Grammy would have been locked up in his teen years, as would have Mr Great Grammy (pyromaniacs run in the family)

The problem with these types of "crimes" is that they diminish the seriousness of real terrorism, kind of like the zero tolerance at school does.

Between the feed store and the drug store you could buy what you needed to make gunpowder 30 years ago.

Not anymore.

And the fun we had with it as kids back then would be considered felonious behavior today.

I used to... I mean my friends used to make those things and put trash cans on top of them. We also used to tie bricks to them and throw them in the pool, both effective ways of having fun on a more low-profile level. This kid shouldn't have been putting them in mailboxes because that could be really dangerous a la the Butterfly Effect.

"I think it is foolish to put the recipe to make a bomb in the forum."

People who want to make a bomb won't be looking here. There are much better sources for that type of information in the Internet.

Don't worry. No deadly secrets were revealed to dangerous people. Anyway most people already know how to make that type of bomb. It's not exactly a secret.

Agreed, all I am saying is that we don't need to give our enemys, and critics more ammo to critize us. Hell, I'd be suprised if DU doesn't have this thread headlined, already.
