When more than half of Bexar County's delegation to the Texas House complains about being excluded from the legislative process, it's logical to conclude San Antonio's interests are not being served.
Six Democratic lawmakers from Bexar County met recently with the Express-News Editorial Board to air the opinion that they were shut out of the debate during the just-completed special session on school finance.
"We're being precluded from representing our school districts," Rep. Carlos Uresti said.
The criticism, of course, is directed at House Speaker Tom Craddick, the first Republican speaker of the Texas House in modern times. Craddick's decision to limit amendments to school finance legislation debated by the House spawned the unrest.
Democrats played a role in damaging relations during last year's regular session with a huge list of budget amendments that amounted to little more than harassment of the GOP leadership.
Of course, the redistricting debacle made relations even worse.
But it's time to return to bipartisan normalcy. The era of GOP control must be considerate of all points of view. It will take good-faith efforts on both sides.
Democrats have a right to be at the table and part of the debate. Their constituents deserve to be heard as much as other Texans.
The GOP majority frequently will disagree with Democratic viewpoints. After they have had their say, Democrats should maintain a constructive attitude even when they are losing.
As head of the House, it is up to Craddick to show the leadership that will make the legislative body work peacefully again.
Democrat crybaby alert!
What was the editorial position while the Dems were in OK?
Democrat crybaby alert!Oh, yeah ! But FIRST, THIS ! .....
Here is the Crybaby 'RAT Logo:
The SA Express is as left-wing as the SF Chronicle. I wouldn't buy it to line a bird cage. If you don't like the way your Mexican obstructionists are treated in Austin, you might try voting for people who are more loyal to the USA than to Mexico. The only thing the Mexican Dems like about America is the welfare checks and the minority hiring laws...even though San Antonio is 65% Mexican.
Who paid the bar bill?LOL..Those poor dems...fleeing the state for their "principles"... and having way too much fun while they suffered for "the people".
Thanks Meek!(#7)
If Texas represents the future of the democrat party, the GOP will have majority power for a generation.
Here's a part of one editorial. Seems like it is always the bad Republicans fault with the Express-News.

Texas 'House Flies' have reason to bolt
Overreaching House Republicans have only themselves to blame for the Democrats' quorum-busting tactic. (May 13, 2003)
San Antonio Express-News

For more than 130 years, Texas House Republicans have wandered in the political wilderness. When, in 2003, they passed over into the Promised Land, taking control of the House, there was jubilation among them.
Alas, the new occupants could not contain themselves from gorging on the milk and honey of political empowerment.
The Gingrichian hubris of the Republican-led House prompted Monday's revenge of the "House Flies."
Fifty-three House...
Thanks Meek!(#7)My pleasure.
