Day is done,
gone to the sun
from the lakes, from the hills,
from the sky.
All is well, safely rest.
God is high.
Thanks and praise,
for our days
'neath the sun, 'neath the stars,
'neath the sky,
As we go, this we know,
God is nigh.

Beloved Father of Us All,
We place before you the members of the above units who have lost comrades. We ask that you will comfort them and help them in the process of adjusting to the losses. Father, we ask that you will help them in their efforts to remain focused, courageous, and dedicated to the duties to which they are pledged. Father, these are the very best our nation has to offer, and they are performing amazing feats, both under arms and in the process of rebuilding and guiding newly-freed countries in their first faltering steps of freedom. Guide, guard, direct, and protect each of these.
We hold these who shall not be returning to their families in our hearts and continue to ask you for your instructions on how to live our lives in such a way so that we do not in any way dishonor their sacrifice. Father, we can never repay the debt, but we can certainly allow our hearts to be full of pride and thankfulness for each one who has given all. Please gather them to your heart and let their corner of your magnificent Heaven be in the most beautiful parts.
Reach down into the lives of the families and loved ones who are mourning the loss of their young hero. Comfort them and lead them through their grief process. Grant them abundant peace and joy despite the disruption of the very fabric of their lives. Help them in the fullness of time be able to take up their lives once more with their faith intact and even strengthened.
Father, we are ever grateful for these who have 'placed themselves between their loved homes and the war's desolation.'*
Amen
