Why is the old Georgia flag still on FR?
commentary
Posted on 05/31/2004 3:39:28 PM PDT by BobbyBeeper
A few years ago I was a pretty regular poster to FR (under an old name, I changed names when I forgot my password.) I complained a few times that the flag used for Georgia profiles was the old GA flag that had the Confederate Battle flag in it. I was told that they had just not gotten around to changing it, or that they couldn't find a waving flag of the new version. Fine. I know changes take time.
But now we sit here 3 years (and two flag changes) since the GA flag was changed, and FR still has the old flag up representing GA. What gives?
Is there some reason FR isn't using the official GA state flag to represent GA? Liberals love to take pot shots at conservatives by calling us racists. Do we have to go out of our way to give them ammo?

Since when is it racist to be reminded of the past?

Try posting on a thread that's older than 5 years. Still can't do that.

Georgia Freepers had quite a long thread going on this on the Georgia Board back when we had our "referendum." Bobby didn't speak up then.

As long as we're rewriting history, we might as well scrap the stars and bars and run up the UN blue. That's where the progressives feel we'll be in a few years.

The proper Georgia flag is a white rectangle, the kind used to surrender. As the French have taught us, one can be cut out of old bedsheets.

If somoene from Georgia is flying the GA Flag 1956-2001 on their front porch right now, does it make them any less of a Georgian?
Think about it.

Speaking of flags did all of you remember to fly your flags today?
I think the current Georgia flag is quite handsome. Of course, our Texas flag is still the most beautiful of all the fifty states

Because those that associate the CBF with heritage have been less then vigirous in the past in clamping down on these people, they have pretty much lost the heritage vs. racism debate in most of the public's minds (for now.) Like it or not, that is just the way it is. I say if Georgia freepers want the old flag then I personally don't see the problem with it. However, I agree with you 100% with what you said about the flag being associated with racists.
It's all well and good for people to claim "heritage, not hate", but where were they all those decades when the battle flag was being used by racists? It is NOT the fault of "liberals" that the battle flag is associated with racism.
If people want to reclaim their heritage that's great. But first try to understand why people associate that flag with racism. It isn't because they are overly sensitive or liberals. It is a matter of fact that many prominent racist groups use that flag as their symbol, have done so for years, and have not been much challenged by those who claim the flag is about "heritage".

"Because those that associate the CBF with heritage have been less then vigirous in the past in clamping down on these people" Oh, give me a break. This is supposed to be a free country. Exactly what means would you have had us use to take away the rights of other Americans, idiots or not, to fly whatever flag they chose? Oh, and if you referring to the Klan, the stars and stripes was always their flag of preference. It was only in later years that they adopted the battle flag ar all and even so, it was always flown along with the stars and stripes. And what flag flew over the slave ships? Ignorance on the part of others does not necessitate the abolition of history on our part.
