Deluge of Anti-Bush Pop-Ups
www.yahoogroups.com ^ | unknown

Yahoogroups.com is deluged with anti-Bush ads from the Kerry campaign. They account for almost 100% of the pop-up ads I see as I browse through my messages. Two-thirds simply bash Bush as opposed to extolling the virtues of Kerry. They're pretty damned annoying when all I want to do is catch up with my Atkins and Star Trek: Enterprise message boards!

Go to http://www.panicware.com and install Pop-up Stopper. It's free; the peace of mind is priceless.

LOL - I can't think of a better way to irritate voters and turn them against him! I hope he keeps it up!

On a somewhat related note- my yahoo email has been crashing every other click for several weeks.

It's not my server, or my system- the same thing happens at work. Only on Yahoomail.

Anyone have any ideas!?!?!?!

A few questions: Are you using Yahoomail via the web interface?; what browser are you using?; is it set up to accept cookies from Yahoo.com?; crashing how?

Is this the best one that you know of? If I'm finally going to fork over money to pay for a pop-up blocker, I want it to be the best.

All the pop ups may indicate spyware.
Ad-aware, Spybot, Search and Destroy 1.3 (those using 1.2 should uninstall it first before installing the new version), and SpywareBlaster are all excellent free programs that will get the junk off your pc, but certain types of spyware will download harmless sounding programs that will continue to update and download nasty stuff even after you eliminate the bugs.

ZoneAlarm®, in addition to being a good firewall, also can be set to require permission for any program trying to access the internet. Many of these bugs are given file names similar to legitimate Windows processes, and this feature can help track them down.

The following sites are good resources for finding and separating the bad stuff from the real Task List processes

Kephyr has a great Spyware and Adware Encyclopedia and a lot of other info.

Andrew Clover also has a great spyware, adware, and parasite info page

The Windows Process Library helps sort it out what is going on in your processor's background, and Answers That Work also has loads of info including Task List Programs

I found that the Keenvalue_112 updator snuck into my program files, and I tracked it down with ZoneAlarm and manually removed it-It would download more nasties everytime I logged on to the web, even though I removed them. My boss's kids had their PC so clogged with junk that they were unable to open IE. I was able to clean it with the above programs, and the latest free version of SpywareBlaster now protects Mozilla as well (Yes, as Mozilla becomes more popular, it is also coming under attack)

Can anything truly be said to be free when opportunity costs, not to mention the burden of the material on one's immortal soul, are considered? As Socrates might have said...

Ummm, what I meant is that there are free and commercial versions, and the free version may be downloaded at http://www.panicware.com/product_psfree.html

Yeah, that's the ticket...
