The President and First Lady went to Arlington Cemetery where the President laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
He spoke briefly on the character of America's Military, past, present and future, active-duty, deceased, retired, or reserves, and their committment to the Country.
Sec. of Defense Rumsfeld received a standing ovation that clearly touched him (no pictures I could find that showed this) and also gave a short speech on the dedication of America's Military.

Hope y'all have a blessed Memorial Day. In this small town of 7,000, the Memorial Day service at the town cemetery was attended by a huge crowd of reverent citizens and was quite moving. The site is on a hilltop where you can see thirty miles in all directions and the weather was perfect.
If you missed Memorial Services at Arlington, you missed a blessing. When the President was introduced, there was a roar from the crowd, the loudest I have heard there. When Rummy was introduced for his speech, the crowd gave him a standing ovation, even the Prez stood. Rummy was moved. Rummy praised the President a bunch and the crowd clapped. He praised the President's courageous and bold leadership.
The President gave a moving speech and he got emotional a time or two (as usual).
HOMEMOM....In 2000, Michigan was a BLUE state (by about 5 points, but we want to change that this time around. It has 18 valuable electoral votes. You might check the Michigan Secretary of State Website or call them and ask them what you can do to vote absentee. Do not say she is a Bush supporter, since the Dem's now have the Michigan state house. You might get the run-a-round.

You've probably already gotten a reply or two, but in case not, here's what I know about voting absentee, which I am signed up to do in perpetuity.
I contacted the Voter Registration Office for my county and requested to be put on their perpetual absentee voter list. This was done and they send me the ballot well in advance of each election. I love voting this way because I am no longer surprised, as I used to be, by some issue appearing on the ballot that I didn't know would be there, and it gives me time to check out the numerous judicial candidates, etc.
My main reason for starting this was that I would often be too ill to get to the voting booth on election day and I was tired of missing the chance to vote. Now, even though my health is better, I continue to use absentee balloting for the above reasons.

You are fully aware of all the reasons we support the re election of George W. Bush, and you are fully aware of the many things he has accomplished during his term, under very trying circumstances. You just wanted someone more conservative, but have no candidate to represent your personal ultra conservative views, and they have to be ultra conservative...because George W. Bush is Conservative, but not conservative enough to your liking.
Actually I saw it on CSPAN later in the day. I'm starting to like CSPAN because they show much more of the before and after activities.
It was a very moving ceremony. I was very touched by how the President and Rummy were cheered, and I think they were too. And of course the speech was very good and moving.
Anyone know when he's going to give another speech about Iraq? Weren't there supposed to be six of them televised?
I'm going to make SURE my sister gets registered and votes somehow!
Thanks Gretchen--I have a friend who absentee votes every time just to avoid the drive into town and the long lines.
In contrast, I live about four blocks from where I vote (and that's "across town!"), I know every one of the people who register the voters, and I've never, ever had to wait to vote in one of the three voting booths. :-)

KERRY 'FLIPS OFF' VIETNAM VET
Democratic senator - and certain presidential nominee - John F. Kerry gave the middle finger to a Vietnam veteran at the Vietnam Memorial Wall on Memorial Day morning, NewsMax.com has learned.
Ted Sampley, a former Green Beret who served two full tours in Vietnam, spotted Kerry and his Secret Service detail at about 9:00 a.m. Monday morning at the Wall. Sampley walked up to Kerry, extended his hand and said, "Senator, I am Ted Sampley, the head of Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry, and I am here to escort you away from the Wall because you do not belong here."
At that point a Secret Service officer told Sampley to back away from Kerry. Sampley moved about 6 feet away and opened his jacket to reveal a HANOI JOHN T-shirt.
Kerry then began talking to a group of schoolchildren. Sampley then showed the T-shirt to the children and said, "Kerry does not belong at the Wall because he betrayed the brave soldiers who fought in Vietnam."
Just then Kerry - in front of the school children, other visitors and Secret Service agents - brazenly 'flashed the bird' at Sampley and then yelled out to everyone, "Sampley is a felon!"
Kerry was referring to an incident 12 years ago when Sampley confronted Sen. John McCain's chief aide, Mark Salter, in a Senate stairwell after McCain repeatedly offended POW families at a Senate POW hearing. Sampley, whose father-in-law at that time was MIA in Laos, followed Salter into the stairwell and, when they emerged, Salter had a bloody lip and a broken nose.
Sampley's group, Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry, has garnered huge national attention and has been featured in the New York Times, the Washington Post and on MSNBC's "Scarborough Country." Tens of thousands of Vietnam vets have registered their opposition to Kerry through Sampley's group.
Clearly Sampley has gotten under Kerry's skin once again.
