In Vietnam, I learned about the promises that soldiers make to each other; the meaning of leadership; the dangers of a government that is not accountable; and the knowledge of what the costs of war are for the individual soldiers, their families, and our country. We can never let politics get in the way of what is best for our troops. We have to always put the life of a private on the battlefield, the sailor on a patrol, or the airman in the belly of a plane first.

For some reason, I think we would have never won WWII with this kind of thinking. Kerry is no Patton..

You are absolutely right. That's one of the reasons I quote Patton at regular intervals. I do so again in my latest column, and give a link to the original version (different from the version delivered by Georege C. Scott in the movie, Patton). The movie version is sanitized a bit from the original. Patton was a master of nasty but inspirational use of the English language.

You sold out your fellow Vietnam veterans, tainted their honorable service and slandered their good names. with nothing but lies and innuendo, just to further your own political ambitions!
May you suffer humiliating defeat in November and shrink into political obscurity and annonymity.
