Was Nick Berg a US spy?
Web India ^ | May 30, 2004 | IST

Posted on 05/30/2004 1:28:05 PM PDT by Rennes Templar

Nick Berg, the American beheaded by terrorists was allegedly working in Iraq as a spy for American intelligence.

It is suspected by some Washington insiders that Berg's links with espionage may have led to his gruesome execution that was filmed on a videotape by terrorists.

"Washington is rife with rumors that Berg had a connection to U.S. intelligence. Fuelling the suspicion is that he had Arab language capabilities and he's said to be a computer genius," The National Enquirer quoted a source as saying.

"Someone who was prepared to brave the dangers of traveling to Iraq on an apparently legitimate business trip would obviously be of great interest to American intelligence for what he could find out.

There's also a lot of suspicion that maybe Nick unwittingly got sucked into spy games that ultimately cost him his life," added the source.

Berg's family has claimed that the 26-year-old Pennsylvanian had travelled to Iraq to find work for his radio tower business company, Prometheus Methods Tower Service. But it has been revealed that there is no evidence at all that Berg's company actually existed.

According to the report, Berg was arrested by Iraqi police on March 24 and questioned repeatedly by FBI agents before he was released on April 6. The agents wanted to know how his e-mail password had reached a September 11 terror suspect Zacarias Moussaoui.

However, in a bizarre disclosure that may have led to his death, Berg even confessed to one of his friends in Baghdad that there was a belief he was an agent of some sort, adds the report.

Berg apparently tried to make his way out of the country on April 10 but was captured by terrorists connected to Al Qaeda associate Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. (ANI)

Sorry about the double post. I am new to this and didn't see that my post went onto the next page. I thought it hadn't worked.

Moore isn't just worried about doing one film!! He wants to bring down George Bush.....PERIOD! I'll bet Berg was working for Moore and maybe even for A.N.S.W.E.R.

I don't count the Enquirer as a credible source but...
Didn't the Enquirer break the stories on " infamous stained dress" and Rush's "oxy" addiction?

What about the Zaccarias Moussaoui connection?

That was a wild coincidence, Moussaoui was on the same bus as Berg and just happened to ask Nick for his password!.

There is no link between Al Queda and Iraq, George Bush has "shredded" our alliances in a rush to war, and the Easter Bunny is a card carrying member of the ACLU.

Thanks snapple. Good info... and great legwork!

Aziz left the country in front of Government deportation hearings in the summer of 2003. The first individual listed on the American Iraqi Council (Ahmed Kubba) is from Florida, I believe. Based on those two things, I would doubt that there is much of a Council to be running from that location. I've been trying to get a handle on Kuba/Kubba... I just posted this earlier this morning.

I've also been researching some of Aziz's Russian mob ties. I think most of those convicted with him have been deported. I hadn't realized before that 'Brainy Don' Mogilevich had an operation in Philadelphia.... that offers endless possiblities.

Re: Aziz and Bush... I never bought that. I think he was just a guy saying the right thing (Saddam has to go) and the right wing media embraced his words without checking his true intentions (and background). Live and learn!

"The regular media would have printed it with far less information than what the Enquirer had."

Oh yes, I remember that story. It was the one about the 7 year old grandmother wasn't it? Or was it the one that said aliens killed Laci Peterson? The Enquirer is nothing more than expensive (and rough) Charmin.

And as I understand it, Philadelphian Berg left CORNELL to go attend University of Oklahoma. No offense to Okies, but he left one of the most highly regarded schools, an Ivy League school, because he wanted to attend college in OKC? (where, coincidentally, some of the 911 hijackers rendezvous'd at least twice...)

Funny.

Except this was a very true story about a pair of very famous celebrities whose public image is a total fraud. I guarantee you there are Freepers who know, respect and admire these two guys.

I will say this, there is more evidence for the story I am talking about than there was with the initial reports of the Lewinsky scandal.

The Enquirer does not do stories like the one you joked about. That is the weekly World News. The Enquirer is often trash, but has a better track record for accuracy over the last decade than the mainstream media. And they have ties to government officials courtesy of Clinton lawyers that tried to use the Enquirer to spin the scandals.

"There is no reason for Moore to have known he existed except if he worked for Moore."

All the speculation on this topic is starting to sound like the "Paul is dead" nonsense of 1970. Read all the articles about the Berg-Moore connection. None of them even hint that they ever met. Moore is a pseudo-documentarian. He sends crews with cameras and mikes out to find interesting sound bites. A meeting of people interested in business in Iraq is a likely place to find them.

You kids have got Berg working for Moore in some anti-US conspiracy that went wrong....totally without one iota of support, just like Moore's own nonsense.

You could be right. Its just a strange situation, too many strange connections, like the Kevin Bacon game where everywhere you turn, you find connections back to him.

I hadn't thought about the Walrus angle, though, I'll float that in the next thread.

More likely Berg was a convert to Islam...

Actually, I will admit that I have wondered about that. Some people have said that he "rediscovered" Judaism (his family was your basically secular Jewish left-wing family) and that he wore a prayer shawl and tefillim.

However, he appeared to know next to no Hebrew - granted, modern spoken Hebrew is not like Biblical Hebrew - but did know some Arabic, although his pronunciation was African, since he had learned it during his stay in Africa.

When he was arrested, he had in his possession a Koran and some anti-Semitic literature, although it may have been in Persian and it's possible that he didn't know what it was.

In one picture, which I believe was taken not long before he died, based on his clothing, he was wearing a chain with something on in that looked like a very small padlock. It also looked to me a lot like the little Koran charms that some Muslims wear (it's a tiny box-like thing with a verse from the Koran inside). It was not decorated or elaborate, however, so it may actually have been just a little padlock that he put on to hold the chain together, but it certainly arouses questions.

I asked him what he meant by "gay component" but so far I haven't gotten an answer.

What is reason you think that may be the case? I haven't heard anything about something like that.

Berg has been face-to-face with terrorist Zacarias Mossouaui (spl), face-to-face with terrorist-supporter Michael Moore, and captured and killed by terrorists in Iraq. Now THAT is a coinky-dink!
