KHOBAR, Saudi Arabia - Tens of American, European and other hostages were released Sunday and a gunman believed to be the lead Islamic militant holding them was arrested, a Saudi security official said, adding that two other gunmen were "in the process of being arrested."

Excellent posts, JustPiper, liberallyconservative, MamaDearest, nw_arizona_granny, LikeLight and others. We can forgive each other for whatever it is we do in error here on TM. We are all painfully human. StillProud, Sissyjane, I don't want anyone to leave. I am glad that Revel and Indie, etc. stayed also. Feathers may be ruffled again on this thread -- it is inevitable -- but that is not a reason to allow this thread or our overall unity within this thread to deteriorate. We can always move past our grievances. Other threads have created life-long enemies; we won't do that here.
We need some of your chill pills! Can you oblige?
better accomodations

I beleive that is the next event in history.
I think that's been going on for years, at least it was in the part of Illinois where I lived. Must have been ACLU-instigated at first, now it just fits the agenda to further everything but the bad old culture we used to have in the US and now must give up for pc reasons...
And we could use a nice graphic for the beginning of each new thread to illustrate that, too!
*ducking, in the event you have not laughed at that.
But, really, a graphic would be a nice visual reminder for us all to stay chilled.
We are on same wavelength ;)
Security fears make Olympics less appealing for 1996 gold medalist Davenport
By JOCELYN GECKER, Associated Press Writer
May 30, 2004
PARIS (AP) -- Security concerns shrouding the Athens Olympics have Lindsay Davenport wondering if she'll go.
``It's an awkward feeling going somewhere where maybe Americans aren't really wanted,'' said the American, who won the singles gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
A year ago, Davenport said she was ``so excited'' at the thought of competing again at the Olympics, but ``the last few months, it's just been a different kind of feeling.''
Fifth-seeded Davenport, who has won every major but the French Open, lost on Sunday to No. 9 Elena Dementieva of Russia 6-1, 6-3 in the fourth round at Roland Garros.
To answer security fears, Greece is spending $1.2 billion and plans to deploy 70,000 police and soldiers to patrol Athens and Olympic venues. NATO is providing air and sea patrols.
With a packed summer tennis schedule, Davenport said her main concern is that the trip to Athens in August would mean too much travel and time away from home. She flies home after the French Open before returning to Europe for Wimbledon, then back home again for three tournaments before the Summer Games from Aug. 13-29.
She also wonders if going back to the Olympics would be as meaningful.
``It was such an amazing moment in '96,'' Davenport said. ``I think I mightjust keep those memories and not try and add any new ones.''
LOL! There you go, you already thought of the graphic and the chill pill.
Missing: A Laptop of DEA InformantsNewsweekJune 7 issue - Federal investigators are frantically trying to determine what happened to a missing laptop computer that contains sensitive data on as many as 100 Drug Enforcement Administration investigations around the country, including a wealth of information about many of the agency's confidential informants, NEWSWEEK has learned.

The computer was first reported stolen three weeks ago by an auditor for the Justice Department's Office of Inspector General, which was conducting a routine review of DEA payments to informants.

Pogo! That looks like a young algore to me.
get some idea, think about the east german olympic teams of the 1970's. anyone who tries to tell you selective breeding doesn't work, they obviously don't know what they are talking about.
The article is from late in 2001, and still we're not serious about the threat in this country. I guess it's true, it's going to take a massive attack to wake us up.
Here's the paragraph:
"What such an effort would look like is a subject unto itself, but at a minimum it would have to entail the vigilant application of social and political pressure to ensure that Islam is not accorded special status of any kind in this country, the active recruitment of moderate Muslims in the fight against Islamic extremism, a keener monitoring of Muslim organizations with documented links to Islamist activity, including the support of terrorism, and the immediate reform of immigration procedures to prevent a further influx of visitors or residents with any hint of Islamist ideology. Wherever that seditious and totalitarian ideology has gained a foothold in the world, it has wrought havoc, and some societies it has brought to their knees. The preservation of our existing order can no longer be taken for granted; it needs to be fought for."
to be honest, I don't see the Olympics being hit, unless some splinter group of "AQ wanna-bes" does some low level attacks.
the main force of AQ is pusing to take down Bush - destroy efforts in Iraq at stability and the interim government, raise oil prices via various terror attack methods, attack allies to get them to peel off from sticking with the US. Attacking the Olympics doesn't seem to fit into that strategy.
You don't even want me to reply to that...Believe me.
