Carter was probably home, polishing his monument to Neville Chamberlain.

Sorry for the rant ... this stuff with the media attack machine has gotten really old with me, and it's getting scary. Dear Lord .. please keep our brave troops solidly in your care, and keep us safe. Don't apologize .. that's just how I feel
Things is .. they don't have to agree with this President .. but the OBVIOUS hatred to the CIC in time of war is over the line
I was no fan of Clinton .. and yes I had questions about how we handled Bosnia ...
But NEVER EVER did I hope we would lose because it would help our side win an election
What has happen to the Dem Party? .. They no longer resemble the Dem Party of my Parents Generation

I just am driven crazy by this blatant attack on our country's President and this war at a time when it's more vital than ever that we support the troops and unite together. WE are at risk again, for God's sake .. they are coming after us .. "hard" .. to quote from Ashcroft's intel, and yet these armchair general egomaniacs can nonchalantly criticize, denounce, second guess, and say things like .. "World War II was a GOOD war," as if any war is good or that sometimes war is the only thing you can do to protect the country.
They're truly a victim of their own slanted, inaccurate press, but there's no doubt in my mind that they're hurting us badly. Michael Savage wants to re-institute the practice of arresting people for sedition .. I'm ready to get on board. Something shocking will HAVE to happen to wake up the liberal machine.
But to finish on a more positive note, Pres. Bush was eloquent and moving today. God Bless all our brave vets, from all wars for all they sacrificed to give us the greatest country on earth. I pray we can keep it.

Did you see Greta last night .. she was doing a mini tour of the memorial. She lamented that HER generation never did anything to honor "the greatest generation". She kept saying .. what's wrong with us .. why didn't we do something long before now ..??

Thanks for the Saturday and very special Dose.
I'm glad your mother-in-law's heart settled down.
Today I went to the grocery store. Outside stood a distinguished, silver-haired member of my city's VFW with red poppy-like lapel flowers for which he took donations for veterans' hospitals. I nearly cried at the sight. When I was a child, these were always made ready -- in bright orange, to commemorate the poppies of Flanders fields, if I have this right -- by veterans at Memorial Day for the public, in a little corner grocery store and all over town. Those simple lapel poppies are how I got to be familiar with the sacrifices of generations gone before when I was very young. It wasn't parades or cemeteries; it was the simple act of soldiers making up these lapel pieces.
I donated and took one -- red now, rather than orange -- put my hand on the veteran's arm and said, simply, "Thank you. For these, and for everything else." Even saying that little bit choked me up. What else can you say? I wish I could hear his stories. I am sure he had some to tell.

I am emailing pix. with AOL cannot do anything with AOL while pix are being sent. with S-L-O-W modem picture sending is almost epic.

Hi, Dolly!
I read your question about Tom Hanks and why he was at the dedication.
Tom Hanks was very instrumental in helping to promote the building and funding of the WWII memorial along woth Sen. Bob Dole and others.

I don't know the stats on how many Presidents had prior military service, but just off the top of my head, I can name some very successful presidents who were not in the service but who either avoided war or led well as CIC: John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and John Quincy Adams. I think FDR is in this category also. Interesting how many of the first Presidents DIDN'T have prior military service, no?
John Adams considered his greatest triumph during his presidency to have been avoiding war with France.
It would be interesting to see a list of
........... Presidents in Office during War
Who Served in Military ........... Who Didn't
and how things went under their administrations.
HOWEVER, the Founders put it into the Constitution that the President is the CIC. I trust their judgment on this because I know why they wrote it that way. American military power is subject to elected civilian authority. Period.
