I'll bet if someone put signs in their window with the words Nigger, and resulted in getting punched out, nobody would condemn the assault.

However, here we have flaming traitors whose actions have given aid and comfort to the terrorist, and finally one gets punched out. Yet some fellow freepers who are weak in the bladder are condeming it.

Stop letting these seditious animals redefine patriotism. Nick Berg was beheaded by animals who were given the strength by people in the Blue Zones.

~"[At Planned Parenthood,] the counselor asked me how the father felt about the abortion, and I said, 'Well, he's my Catholic priest.' I don't know if she believed me or not, but she just kept on going," Haigh said.~

If the story is true, it was very nice of PP to let a possible case of statutory rape to go unreported. Oh, well, as long as they get their money, right?

http://www.sd455.com/moviereturnmaconcounty.htm has a nice writeup as well as a great movie poster for "Return to Macon County".

Nothing reminds me of the guys and gals at Abu Ghraib so much as the characters in this movie. Guess we all know who plays Junelle, the friendly waitress.

However, "Macon County Line" had a much more appropriate story line than "Return...." which, interestingly enough, has a couple of punks messing around before reporting for military duty. Guess they got assigned to the MPs! (something I'd always suspected).

I tried to tell House Mother Karpinski what Al said and that she should keep a close eye on those girls, especially Lynndie and Sabrina. I knew they were the wild ones -- slipping out at night, smoking cigarettes, meeting boys and doing well-never-you-mind. I told her they were headed straight for the reformatory and now that's just what's happened. Oh, if only she'd listened.

why is this woman just going to throw in the towel and close her stupid art shop so willingly without a fight?

Probably a couple of months behind on the rent. She hasn't even got the proper paperwork filed to be doing business as the Capobianco Gallery. Supposed to have a fictitious business name filing.

San Francisco, CA (Posted 5/28/04)

This Saturday, May 29, 2004, at 10 AM, artists, activists, and free speech devotees will be gathering at the Copobianco Gallery in North Beach in support of owner Lori Haigh's right to display controversial art. The controversy grows out of the display of a new painting by graphic novelist Guy Colwell depicting the Abu Ghraib prison torture, which has led to Haigh receiving threats on the lives of she and her children and enduring vandalism at her gallery. The Copobianco Gallery is located at 1841 Powell St, between Filbert and Greenwich at Washington Square.

The San Jose Mercury News reports, "In the past 10 days, Haigh has endured vandalism at her Capobianco Gallery, dozens of hate calls labeling her anti-American, and even a few death threats. Now disillusioned and frightened for her family, she's closed the Powell Street gallery at least temporarily, and maybe for good. That has spawned another protest, from San Francisco artists and publishers, including veterans of past censorship battles. They vow to persuade her to stay open."

If you cannot attend the gathering, express your belief in the right to speak freely and without intimidation by showing support for Lori Haigh and the Copobianco Gallery by e-mailing info@capogallerysf.com or writing to: 1841 Powell Street, San Francisco CA 94133-2809.

It is now but the business name would still be on file ... if it ever was. Probably a litany of pronblems at her gallery not related to the alleged attack. Fire dept. permits, business license, sales tax filings....She's shutting down for other reasons, imo.

Colwell, who was born in Oakland in 1945, studied for two years at the California College of Arts and Crafts and worked as a toy sculptor for Mattel in 1966. In 1968, he was imprisoned for draft resistance and spent two years in jail. He was a central player in San Francisco's underground comic scene in the 1970s and penned Inner City Romance, in which he depicted "tales of political repression, violence and ghetto and prison life."

He said he did not understand the animosity directed at the art.

"Apparently, people are quite shocked by my painting," he said. "I don't know why they are not equally or more shocked by the pictures they are seeing on television of the actual torture taking place."

He scoffed at the notion that some objected to the graphic depiction of the war prisoners' genitals.

"If you can see genitals in my painting and call that obscene, then I think you need to look at the actions taken by these people in the prisons in Iraq," he said. "That is where you will find the real obscenity."

Colwell calls himself a patriot.

"I have worked for peace and justice most of my life. I think that is a very American thing to do," he said. "I am not anti-American, I'm anti-torture. I'm anti-cruelty. I'm anti-hypocrisy. I don't want to be lied to any more by our government, and I stand by my work."

Meanwhile, Haigh said the gallery window would feature a less- controversial image at night.

"I'm putting a picture of a square in the window," she said. "Who can object to a square?"

She said she has been frightened by the animosity directed at her.

"I am scared now for my kids," she said. "I'm getting calls at home. Can little me put my whole life on the line for this? It's really kind of scary."

Mary Grant, left, sits by Lori Haigh at press conference. Father Lenihan, the same priest Haigh said abused her, admitted to molesting Grant. She was paid $25,000 in 1991 by the church.

We all scoff at that. This is a case of an art gallery going under for financial reasons. The whole painting protest thing is phony and an attempt to break a lease. The painting is nothing out of the ordinary in SF. She still has assets from her settlement with the Catholic church that can be attached if she breaks the lease for no reason. She is protecting her assets and not willing to spend anymore on the money sucking gallery.

In April 1992, the appellee, Glen Trew ("Trew"), hired Lori Capobianco, the appellant, as the office manager of his business, "Trew Audio Services." Trew Audio Services was an audio equipment business located in Tennessee operating as a sole proprietorship. Trew terminated Capobianco's employment on June 8, 1994, and on June 17, 1994, Trew incorporated his business as "Trew Audio Nashville, Inc."

In December 1994, he sued Capobianco in a Tennessee state court. He alleged that Capobianco had engaged in fraud, embezzlement, forgery, conversion, and misappropriation of funds while working for him, resulting in damages of approximately $107,109.78. Attached to his complaint were copies of numerous checks that she had allegedly signed and issued without authorization. Capobianco answered in February 1995 and discovery commenced. At her deposition, she invoked her Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination and refused to answer questions regarding the checks.

Before the trial was to begin, Capobianco relocated from Tennessee to San Francisco. There, in August 1998, she filed her chapter 7 petition in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California. The deadline for nondischargeability actions was November 2, 1998.

Youre right, but I would not be *amazingly* suprised if this was a setup. When I was at UB a student was mugged, and then security did nothing about it. The LGBA made a big stink, until the person admitted that it was a stunt.

I guess the "sexual abuse" didn't affect her until after all of her "travels". I wonder if she used any of the alleged embezzled money for her trips?
