After displaying a painting of U.S. soldiers torturing Iraqi prisoners, a San Francisco gallery owner bears a painful reminder of the nations unresolved anguish over the incidents at Abu Ghraib -- a black eye and bloodied brow delivered by an unknown assailant who apparently objected to the art work.

The assault outside the Capobianco gallery in the citys North Beach district Thursday night was the worst, but only the latest in a string of verbal and physical attacks that have directed at owner Lori Haigh since the painting, titled "Abuse," was installed there on May 16.

"black eye and bloodied brow"--is that all? The alleged assailant deserves a medal.

I don't buy this story. Sounds like pure PR.

There aren't that many patriots in SF to give a rats ass about the war on terror, let alone Iraq.

If anything this "artist" would be given the keys to the city.

While I'm unsure whether to trust the girl's story, if true, I don't think she deserved a punch in the face.

I would rather have seen someone smash the damn picture. It would have made a much better statement.

I totally agree with you on every point.

Haigh believes "it is the locals" who first took aim at her gallery since it's on a mostly residential street and she hadn't advertised.

Though I find that roughing up a woman is despicable beavior, I find it to be a good sign that locals in San Francisco of all places, are totally disgusted with the LEFTISTS and their overplaying of Abu Ghraib.

See the media angle here? Millions of peaceful Americans have been disgusted and pissed off at the way the major media have been carping on the Abu Ghraib story and their opinions have never been covered. But, let one person act out violently over it and they're right there on the spot, eager to do a story on it. That way they can attempt to paint conservatives or anyone else who supports our men and women in uniform as violent loons.

Am I missing something? All we get from this article is that somebody allegedly 'spat' on her. Where's the description of the person who hit her? Or the details of the 'assualt'?

Nice catch. 1.2 mil from the archdiocese for supposedly being molested while being driven by a priest to/from music practices. So it must have always happened in the car during these short trips. Uh-huh.

Oh, and the priest made her get an abortion when she got pregnant (how convenient). Oh, and there are two other Catholic clergy she's accusing of sexual molestation, including one that claims he doesn't even know her.

I don't believe her--AT ALL. She can fool a polygraph, big whoop. I'm sure Bill Clinton can too.

This lends further credence to the set-up and self-inflicted wound theories going around.

If DNA evidence had been taken, it would probably prove that she beat her self up-and who can blame her?

Smashing the picture with her face would have really made a statement.

I don't have a lot of confidence in the extremely PC SFPD exposing a possible fraudulent liberal faking a crime against herself. Or in getting somebody else to beat her up to 'prove her case', like the psycho in Dirty Harry.

In another article on this flap with the RCC, the LA diocese spokeswoman made it clear that settlement was reached strictly to avoid the costs of litigation and that no admission of wrong-doing by the church or Lenihan would be forthcoming.

Lenihan was arraigned last year on Haigh's criminal charges against him and posted bail. I don't know what the outcome of that was.

It would appear from this link that Lenihan had problems keeping his hands off the girls:

I still have a tough time believing Ms. Haigh's story. It smacks of opportunism against a guy who because of other misconduct could be taken.
