What's ironic is that the Muslims just hit the Saudis. Nobody has been more accomodating of Wahabbism than the Saudis, but the royal family just isn't "Muslim enough". They will never learn. Not moderate Muslims, not Europe.

Exactly! And it isn't a matter of us being too damned moral for our own good, but rather that some of us seem to have lost sight of what it means to be moral in the first place. For Heavens sake, nobody wants to kill innocent civilians, but it's a question of the greater good. When battling Nazism, Communism, Islam, etc., it would be a lot more shameful to handicap ourselves so much that we could not win (and thus condemn the whole world to centuries of slavery, ignorance, misery and death), than it would be to firebomb Dresden, say. Lesser of two evils.
I agree that it may not be necessary. Nor, in fact, do I think we could do it successfully, which is why I would never advocate such an actual policy.
But while it wouldn't be prudent, we clearly do have the moral right to do it, and any time we do invade -- if we do again -- I have no problem at all with that from a purely moral perspective.
