On April 29, 2004, as a service and tribute to members of the World War II Generation, the National World War II Memorial opened for public viewing, exactly one month prior to the formal Dedication Ceremony taking place May 29, 2004. The World War II Memorial is the first national memorial dedicated to all who served during the Second World War. The memorial, established by the American Battle Monuments Commission, honors all military veterans of the war, the citizens on the home front, the nation at large, and the high moral purpose and idealism that motivated the nation's call to arms. The Second World War is the only 20th-century event commemorated on the Mall's central axis. (from www.wwiimemorial.com)
Don't forget that you can watch the dedication today!! God Bless all of our Veterans & Active Duty!!! |

You are going to a BBQ/cookout? Well, actually, yes !
My wife and 3 of her lady friends are doing the Tourist thing and went to San Antonio.
My friend invited me to join him at his Mom's for a Bar-B-Q on Sunday.
Sorry 'bout your rain. Maybe ya'll could do an impromptu BBQ cookout ?? That could be fun !

I grew up in Chicago
I STILL miss the Midwest
I'd love to visit there sometime.
Terre Haute sounds like a typical Midwestern town.

Memorial Day 2003
Tall Marine lay long and cold in his casket once brave and bold...
Showing his honor on his chest thread bare lapel old at best...
The guns were fired the roses laid one brave Marine in his last parade...

I was born and raise in the Western Suburbs (Oak Park, Melrose Park, River Forest, Bellwood). My grandmother still lives in Melrose Park, my brother in Prospect Heights. Here is a picture of my four children just prior to the start of the 2004 St. Patrick's Day Parade...
Left to right: Audrae, Stuart, Caroline, Moira. I know they don't all look excited, but it was COLD!!!!

I grew up near Diversey and Harlem in Chicago.
Elmwood Park was across Harlem Ave
Just found about 2 weeks ago tomkow6 grew up within walking distance of me.
We're both the same age range.
