Madonna Slammed for Politically-Heavy Tour

Pop superstar Madonna's Re-Invention tour has been slammed by American critics - for overloading the show with "naive" political statements. The "American Life" singer, 45, kicked off the US leg of her tour in California on Monday but failed to impress critics with her attempts to "wipe the slate clean" by ditching her trademark raunchy routines. The Los Angeles Times sniped, "This promised to be Madonna's tour de force, a reappraisal that put her work in new and revealing contexts. But time and again she fell short of the challenge." Many critics were unimpressed by the images of the Iraq war, injured civilian children and US soldiers, saying Madonna should look back to her past concert tours for inspiration. Others suggested her cover of John Lennon classic "Imagine," throughout which a hard-hitting video featuring Israeli and Palestinian children walking hand in hand was played, was ill-conceived. The Californian newspaper added, "Madonna traded most of the old sexual teasing for social commentary, and she's no John Lennon, friends." The New York Times concurred, "Madonna is far too slippery - and far too savvy - for this sort of faux-naive sentimentalism." Tabloid The New York Post added, "Madonna's blonde ambition is fading to bland."

I am sure I'm in the minority, but I never found her attractive in the least.

I remember when she first hit, I thought she was cute and hot. But, I was 24 years old and single. I was usually stoned all the time, too. So my standards weren't too high.

Perhaps my memory is fuzzy, but I seem to recall that her brain was one of the few organs Madonna didn't display in her book...

Yes, her children are going to love reading that picture book when they're a little older...

Maybe if I was stoned I would have been attracted. But then again it, that's just one of the many benefits of not getting stoned.

Regarding that hideous picture... Does she want to be male, or Michael Jackson? Ugh!

"I love my va-GI-nah."

(one of the best SNL sketches ever: Phil Hartman as Charlton Heston in the recording studio, making a books-on-tape version of Madonna's "book.")

I am sure I'm in the minority, but I never found her attractive in the least. Or talented for that matter.

When she first hit MTV in the 80's she was cute, new, could dance, and had huge knockers. Her audience was 16-24 year old Males. We've all grown older...she's also grown sleazier. She needs to retire.

Gee I wonder why she is where she is in her life, and you are where you are?

You're right.
I feel ashamed that I have not bred a clutch of bastard children and will descend to any level of depravity to revitalize my failing career.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

I, uh...me either. ;)

Actually, a friend of mine bought it back when it was new, and so I leafed through it briefly- it's pretty much what you would expect. I understand those things sell for a lot of money today, not that this changes my own opinion that it's worthless, of course...

Ditto. And I could never figure out why anyone would want to look at her and her body isn't good either. She is one of those squat bods with a big head, just like her new little girlfriend, Brittany.
