Need Freeper Help to stop unwanted phone calls

Posted on 05/28/2004 8:25:58 AM PDT by ladyjane

At 8:15 this morning the phone started ringing. A fax machine is now dialing my number every 2 minutes. I tried returning the call but it's always busy. I have called the operator who said their company will try (3 times) to send a fax. I can't take the phone off the hook because I'm waiting for a delivery. A long weekend is ahead.

Freepers always have the best ideas. Help!

You could, if particularly devilish, loop a piece of black construction paper in your fax and send back to the return #. Plays heck with toner and filament life...

get an answering machine.

Only pick up when a real person talks thorugh the answering machine speaker.

Great for screening unwanted calls.

Surely, somewhere on the web there is a recording of the magic 'beep, beap, bepe' that could be used without hunting for an unused number.
I keep getting spam faxes for "vacation specials". They pretend they are from "corporate travel office" or the HR department passing on a special offer for the employees. They have the same format but with different phone numbers on them. Grrrrrrr.

When you fax them back, just fax as many pages as possibe with the darkest and most print that you can fit on a piece of paper. For me, a very very large black square works well.

A fax machine is now dialing my number every 2 minutes.

I can't tell you why this is happening.....

but it must be Bush's fault.

oops, sorry for the double posts. The ringing must be getting to me.

I knew I could count on Freepers to come up with great ideas. I just got off the phone with my service representative. I don't have call forwarding but she said with my plan it's free and she'll sign me up. ( why didn't they put it on there to begin with?) Unfortunately she said it will take a week. Otherwise I'd be forwarding the calls to the local democratic headquarters.

I'm not sure if it's still true, but area code 703 used to be Virginia.

Recieve the fax, and then fax them back this thread.

If you are using Windows XP, there is a built-in fax machine already on your computer.

Call the phone company and ask them to disable the phone number that is sending you the faxes, until they can contact the party responsible for the number and get them to stop. Cutting off the sender's fax line will probably get the sender's attention pretty quickly.

Call your state regulatory agency, and fast. It is a long holiday weekend.

They regulate all public utilities, including telecommunications.

Do you not have "Call Blocking" on your phone? You can just "block" calls from that number.

I don't have a fax problem, but I'm getting some marvelous ideas to use if I ever do. Will forwarding my phone to the DNC ward off all the calls from my teenager's friends?

Reverse phone number lookup on 703 4807270 came up blank.

A good rule of thumb is to try replacing nonzero digits from the end of a telephone number back towards the beginning if you're doing reverse phone number lookups.

That's how you'll find their main PBX number if it's coming from a company.

I did this, first with 7200 which also came up blank, and then did it with 7000:

You searched for: 703 4807000
Results 1 - 1 of 1 PREVIOUS | NEXT

Reverse Telephone Listings

Perot Systems
13880 Dulles Corner Lane
HERNDON, VA 20171
703-480-7000

Give 'em a call and explain what's going on.

If 7270 is one of their extensions, then you've taken the first step in the journey towards solving the problem.

Good luck.

When you fax them back, just fax as many pages as possibe with the darkest and most print that you can fit on a piece of paper.

No need for multiple pages. For easy fax vandalism, just get a long piece of paper, such as the fanfold printer type, feed it into the machine and tape the ends together. Fax until the receiving machine runs out of paper/toner or just craps out altogether.

No caller-ID? Has anyone mentioned "hooking up a fax machine" yet? yes? Oh, never mind then. :)
