The War: A covert and deceptive war has been waged on Christmas to remove any mention of it from the public square during the Christmas season. During the past several years, and with great effectiveness, we have observed a consistent and relentless move to culturally pressure merchants, businessmen and individuals to remove the words Merry Christmas from their advertising, decorations and promotional materials.
The festive atmosphere of the past that surrounded the Christmas season in department stores which energized shoppers, supported their culture and tradition, and excited them to select just the right gift for friends and family for the Christmas celebration has been severely diminished. For many, the atmosphere has become offensive and devoid of any meaning.
Our Goal:
The primary goal of the Committee to Save Merry Christmas is to preserve the culture and tradition of the vast majority of Americans that celebrate and honor Christmas. Christmas is a nationally declared federal holiday that has been observed from the inception of our nation. In the past several years, the term Merry Christmas has been deliberately and intentionally excluded from major retailers like Federated Department Stores. The words Merry Christmas have been deliberately and intentionally removed from their decorations and advertising. Taking their place are non-celebratory phases like Seasons Greetings and Happy Holidays. When did it become offensive to display or say, Merry Christmas?
This intentional and deliberate exclusion of Merry Christmas in the Federated Department Stores advertising and decorations is extremely offensive to the culture and tradition of Americans who honor and celebrate Christmas.
Each Christmas season, every kind of decoration, advertising gimmick and sales promotion is hoisted upon the general public by Federated Department Stores directing the public to purchase their merchandise for the Christmas celebration...all the while never mentioning the word, "Christmas." This deliberate and intentional exclusion of Merry Christmas by Federated Department Stores with substitute un-celebratory phases is thoughtless, condescending and hurtful.
Should you--the purchasing public--who honors the American tradition and culture of Christmas, continue to purchase Christmas gifts from Federated Department Stores when they deliberately and intentionally refuse to acknowledge Christmas? Our committee believes you should not! Federated Department Stores did not hesitate to advertise After Christmas Sales. Federated Department Stores are very willing to use the word Christmas when it suits their needs.
Encouraging a Boycott:
The Committee to Save Merry Christmas contacted the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors of Federated Department Stores by mail in an attempt to negotiate a solution acceptable both to the Committee and Federated Department Stores. Federated Department Stores has remained silent. Due to their silence and refusal to enter into meaningful negotiations, the Committee has no other choice, but to organize a nationwide boycott of Federated Department Stores. We are launching our boycott with the 2004 Christmas shopping season. The Committee is prepared to maintain and extend this boycott beyond the 2004 Christmas shopping season until our concerns are addressed.
Federated Department Stores annual financial success is primarily determined by sales and revenues that are realized during the Christmas season. Should Federated Department Stores show no increase in sales or a two to six percent reduction of sales compared with the previous year, corporate profits and bonuses for the current year will be significantly reduced or eliminated. A strategically targeted boycott by a relatively few well organized persons can put enormous pressure on Federated Department Stores.
The Committee is directing every person, family and organization offended by Federated Department Stores practices to boycott their stores. Refrain from shopping in their stores during the Christmas shopping season. A year long boycott is optional. The Committee is asking every supporter to spread the boycott to anyone who is sympathetic and to visit our website often for instructions, updates and a more complete listing of all Federated Department Stores. This is an issue that sticks in my craw every year. Good for them I hope they are successful.
To: ElkGroveDan
They will only be successful if every single person who wants Merry Christmas to continue stands up and fights for the same thing.
I put Merry Christmas on EVERYTHING. For anyone to complain about this is ludicrous and its about time we stop bowing to these small groups who want to kill all our traditions.
Glad to hear there are people out there who are challenging all of this. They need everyone's help and I think they will get it. I'm personally tired of these miserable people wanting to make everyone else m iserable.
Misery loves company is soooo true...especially in today's whacked out world.

Hatred for Christians is at an all time high in this country. We might as well start claiming our own territory and planning for secession. At minimum we need to remove all our kids from the public school system. The Christmas issue is just a minor sympton of a likely terminal disease. It's been a long time coming.

Each year the Knights of Columbus supports the "Keep Christ in Christmas" campaign to remind people that Christmas is above all else a holy day to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. To help deliver the "Keep Christ in Christmas" message, the Order offers a variety of posters and other materials as well as public service announcements (PSAs) for radio and television.

I suppose "bah, humbug!" would be an inappropriate response here?

More than boycott a few big department stores we should vow to do our Christmas shopping at small, locally owned businesses (or websites) which sell goods crafted by our fellow Americans. These small retailers tend not to be anti-Christmas as are the big guys and their products are often unique.
