From a sofa in her Miramar home, the mother of Adnan El'Shukri-Jumah watched her son's face flash across the television screen with six other pictures of terrorist suspects. When Attorney General John Ashcroft singled out her son by name in Wednesday's live broadcast, Zurah Abdu Ahmed loosened her pursed lips.

"First!" she said.

But the early mention of her Saudi-born son's name held the only surprise for Ahmed, 42. Her lips moved silently in prayer as Ashcroft said her son had met overseas with senior al-Qaida leaders to plan attacks, and that he has scouted America for potential sites.

Unbelievable...This IS the greatest country on earth and your son and his ilk are trying to destroy it. Glad you are enjoying your Medicare issued bed!

Adnan El'Shukri-Jumah A Saudi native who used to live in Miramar. Nicknamed "Jafar the Pilot," El'Shukri-Jumah is thought to be a possible leader of a terrorism cell or an organizer similar to Mohamed Atta, who was a planner of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and piloted one of the hijacked planes. FBI officials began searching for El'Shukri-Jumah last year in part because of the overseas interrogation of captured al-Qaida senior planner Khalid Shaikh Mohammed. Federal prosecutors in northern Virginia last fall obtained a warrant to detain El'Shukri-Jumah as a material witness. Authorities say he may be carrying passports from Saudi Arabia, Trinidad and Canada. They say El'Shukri-Jumah is of particular interest because of his familiarity with the United States, ability to use fake documents and fluency in English.

a fourteen year old girl had a baby by a forty-six year old husband. Islam. Not that it matters 28 years later.

One thing I've been thinking, is that Muslims who are truly opposed to terrorism, or who do appreciate the U.S., are a lot less likely to turn in a Muslim on the wanted list, or one who behaves suspiciously, since the photographs of the prison abuses came out. Especially since people can be disappeared without judicial oversight.

I have no idea how important peaceful Muslims are to discovering terrorists, or if it makes any difference whether we alienate them or not. But this did cross my mind.

His mother said he has called once since then. He said he was teaching English in Morocco, had married and had a son; she warned him to stay away, telling him that the U.S. government was imprisoning Arab and Muslim men without letting them see a lawyer, Ahmed said.

Sounds like Mom needs to be arrested.

"You know something," she said, "he and I used to say, `If this country had Islamic law it would be the best country on the Earth.'"

Like I said...sounds like Mom needs to be arrested.

It doesn't matter at all. The FBI had an islamic guy around the 9/11 people, he never said a thing. They're useless for info.

Yeah, and don't you know not a day goes by that I don't break down and cry for hours with regret over such a wasted opportunity.

Right.

Friggin' ragheads want sharia so badly, let 'em go packing back to the sewers they crawled out of, and leave civilized people alone (for a change)!

LOL!! I just got done punching numbers in my calculator and was going to post the same thing. Disgusting. But of course, we must be sensitive to other cultures.

Let's see if he likes the cell we provide him.

BINGO!

If they hate us, our country and our way of life so much, who's hindering 'em from going back to their Islamist ratholes?

You got it. The ACLU has spoon fed a generation or two of parents in denial. No, they didn't raise their son to be a terrorist, it's really just government stereotyping.

Arrest her until she tells them where he is. She knows. She's one of the sharia law lovers and we don't need those kind here.

Oh, geez, not again. Every time El'Shukri-Jumah's name comes up -- he's been on the FBI's most-wanted listed for well over a year -- the Sun-Sentinel does a knee-jerk "pity the poor muslim" story. Junior isn't the only one who just happens to be involved with terrorism -- daddy-o just happened to be the leader of the infamous Brooklyn mosque where at least one member of the '93 WTC bombing showed his ugly face. The Sun-Sentinel let the cat out of the bag back in 2003, but they haven't repeated the connection since then:

"His son, branded a terror suspect and the subject of a worldwide FBI search, has disappeared. Now a respected Islamic holy man's position at a Miramar mosque is gone, too.

"They fired me," Gulshair El'Shukri-Jumah said Tuesday. "I can't sleep at night anymore."

Mosque leaders say they do not suspect El'Shukri-Jumah, 73, of terrorism. But they say their community is nervous about publicity over federal investigators accusing his 27-year-old son, Adnan El'Shukri-Jumah of possibly coordinating al-Qaida's next attack against America.

"In light of what happened he was asked to step down," said board member Abzal Hosein. "We want to let people know at no time we have any affiliation with terrorists."

As Gulshair El'Shukri-Jumah nervously awaited a follow-up meeting with mosque directors Tuesday, he retraced elements of his religious career, which included 20 years of missionary work for the Saudi government. In 1995 he retired after 10 years leading a Brooklyn mosque where at least one suspect from the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993 prayed.

El'Shukri-Jumah said he testified in a trial in which Abdul Rasheed was convicted of plotting to blow up the United Nations and the Holland Tunnel.

El'Shukri-Jumah said he understood that Rasheed, prosecuted under his legal name of Clement Hampton-El, had fought in Afghanistan to "help his brothers, the Muslims."

Gosh oh golly -- what a coincidence. Dad rubbed elbows (and who knows what else) with a bunch of terrorists in NY, and junior is wanted by the FBI for links to terrorism -- but lets all sit down and have a good cry about the unfairness of it all -- until the next lethal expolosion.

What is it with the Sun Sentinel? Florida appears to be crawling with Islamics, and the newspapers down here are basically supporting them.

I live in Gainesville, which sports a brand new Islamic Center (thanks to Sami al Arian), and yesterday when I had to go down to Ocala, I saw at least two "Islamic Centers." I can't believe we have that many Islamic immigrants in North Central Florida. Somebody is still funding these things, even though Sami Al Arian has been hauled off (no thanks to the local press).

... and all the BALCO clients deny they have ever been BALCO clients, and Malvo is such a nice boy, and on and on. Is this what they teach in the J-schools nowadays (what else would there be to teach in journalism schools?), how to write obligatory denial but-he's-such-a-nice-boy stories? Boy, that's so predictable and tired!

They don't exist. Anyone who prays to the moon god and follows the pedophile hates everything non-Muslim. "Moderate Muslims" are either those who do not understand their own religion or Trajan Horses.
