There is more to Karpinski than meets the eye and so far it seems that Seve Gill is the only one interested in finding out why a person who is STILL attempting to blame anyone but herself for the poor training of the troops under her command was ever allowed to reach the rank of brigadier general.

Maybe one of the reasons Sanchez is being rotated out earlier is that he picked her for the command.

Karpinski is a weasel. Any true leader would immediately step forward and accept the fact that they have failed to lead. How she got to her present rank is beyond me. Well maybe not, I suspect it has to do with political correctness.

I agree that there's something more than meets the eye.
But as I said yesterday on another post, I don't think she was there because she's a woman (which, as far as I'm concerned, is doubtful in any case) but because she's one of the few Arabic-speaking officers in the military today.

Did he know he was picking a "feminist" and set her up to fail? Her track record was well known.

He also stated, "I don't know how things are handled in the Reserves, but in the regular Army, she would never have been promoted to her current rank." Good question ... how did she ever become a Brig General???

A more scary thought than any tortures in the prison is that one of her superiors actually "fraternized" with her.

I think the military is scraping the bottom of the barrel to find Arabic speakers. Not political correctness but lack of planning in the 1990s.

Language skills. I think it's a crime that this wasn't dealt with in the Clinton Administration.

Being an arabic speaker may have something to do with her being in Iraq but I don't believe she made her rank because of it.

When did she last get promoted? I've been trying to find out the timeline for her rapid elevation.
(And again, I'm still not sure she's wholly female)

I still want to know who this "Juan" guy is!
They keep talking about "An Army of Juan".

Sorry to say, but in the regular Army she surely would have been promoted. Most definitely over more qualified male officers.
Extra points for race and gender put certain people at the top of the list.

If you were in the US military during the past ten years you would KNOW she was promoted on the basis of her gender.

PC run wild. There is no way she should have gotten above the level of CPT if what the LTC says is true.

Yep. The desire to populate the ranks with the "correct ratio" rather than the best qualified is definitely at play here.
