Is it too good to be true...or does the GOP candidate (Larry Diedrich) have a shot at winning next Tuesday's Special Election?
According to recent poll done by a Sioux Falls TV station, the race between Diedrich and Stephanie Herseth looks like a dead heat.
If Herseth loses this race, Tom Daschle will be deeply saddened.
Any SD Freep'ers have any insight on this race?!

It's a travesty that a leftist pro-abort washington lobbyist lawyer type like Herseth even has a chance in South Dakota... she does NOT represent the people of the state!!!!
I clicked on the link and take that back. This seems to be based on an Argus Leader/KELO TV poll. It showed Diedrich down by 3. If this is correct, Diedrich is quickly gaining ground. According to Keloland.com, he was down by 9 last week.

I still expect the Zogby poll results to be released tonight.
Given its record -- repeatedly electing both Daschle and Tim Johnson, thoroughly orthodox liberal Dems -- the state of South Dakota deserves some kind of dishonorable mention as the state with the highest proportion of disloyal, and/or stupid, "Republicans." We have a big registration edge in the state, and Bush won it by a fat margin. If Daschle is sent back to Washington by these teat-suckers and dolts, who care more about a little pork than about their country and are more interested in a handshake than a voting record, I will be throwing up for a week.
Johnson and Daschle were both sold as moderates in SD Daschle even goes so far to claim he is pro 2nd amendment there.
Sure, of course. But once they were in office for
a few years, they had voting records.
My comments stand: A huge number of South Dakota
"Republicans" are unworthy of the name. Maybe it's
something in their water.
If there are a thousand good patriots in SD are we still all teatsuckers and dolts?
There is some mix up in the poll numbers being reported. The 9 and the 3 you wrote of were numbers from the same poll. The 9 was for likely voters, the 3 for definite voters. In any event there has been enourmous closing of the gap over a couple of months.
Thanks for the clarification. Did you see tonight's local news? Was there any mention of a Zogby poll on the Congressional race?
"All?" No. Not even close. Read my posts again. I said
many. Too many. Perhaps a higher proportion than anywhere else. But on that, I'm open to factual dispute.
It's really best to read posts carefully before misinterpreting them to the other readers.

If you cashed that check from the Department of Agriculture you are.
Alright. South Dakota is a predominantly Republican state.
We haven't elected a Democratic president in goodness knows how long. Our governorship is always always won by a Republican. Our congressmen at the state level are overwhelmingly Republican. Tom Daschle and Tim Johnson have kept their seats by pretending to be conservative Democrats.
We're a state that likes nice guys. Tim Johnson, until recently, has played that part well. Daschle's support is wavering because he quit playing that role. Now
Johnson's done the same.
Today, instead of playing the nice guy who gets along with everyone, he said that South Dakotan Republicans were like the Taliban. To make matters worse, he said it in a speech he was giving to show support for Herseth.
That will do some damage to both candidates. I'm not
sure if it'll be enough, but I think it may be.
Now! Why haven't you joined our locale?
20% republicans in SD love RATS who go to DC for them
