VICTORIA, TEXAS - Students at Howell Middle School in Victoria on Monday get a peek at Civil War-era life during a history lesson. The program, on the school's football field, ended with the firing of a 12-pounder Napoleon cannon. Students learned about the era's artillery, infantry and dress for women and children. The Sons of Confederate Veterans made the presentation.

That should be "12 pounder", identifying the weight of the solid shot fired by the Napoleon. The cannon tube itself weighs more like 1,200 pounds.
