Tonight, petitions could stall Muslim prayer call
http://www.freep.com/news/locway/call25_20040525.htm
Oh, yeah, those Sunday Church bells were sooooo pushy....I think you overpaid for your education....
But broadcasting the Apollo Creed Hampster Dance would be cooler.
Chad "Gonna Fly Now" Fairbanks
And for that reason they should oppose about it. Once you allow a waiver for one group, any group could follow.
How does this "smack of intolerance" because some people dont want to hear this dribble several times a day???? Have you HEARD the "call to prayer"? By broadcasting it to the public they are forcing their beliefs on others....if anyone is "intolerant" its the muslims who feel they need to make THEIR religion heard to EVERYONE...even those not interested.
There's this little agenda going on here, that they somehow
forgot to mention. Once the call to prayer goes out, they
see the land as islamic territory and they must keep it
that way. That's why they think they have a right to
Spain and any other lands that ever were under islam.
They plan to convert the universe. They have made that
real clear, why some people don't believe it is a mystery
to me.
If this "call to prayer" passes....every church in America should immediately start legislating a broadcast of the Apostles Creed 3 times a day....morning, noon, night!
I like the Apostle's Creed analogy stated somewhere in a previous post. Would the muslims approve of hearing that 5 times a day or whatever?
Second, how is the Muslim freedom of religion violated by the government because local people object to the wailing moans coming out of those loudspeakers? It sounds like you think that local determination of noise ordinances are improper.
Third, how does this impact on the government regulation of free speech?
Go look up the words to these calls to prayers and you will see that they are pure prostylization(sp?)
These arguments smack of intolerance and violate people's rights to freedom of religion and freedom of speech.
You would be right, except for one thing. A person can walk away from someone preaching the gospel. These people are home owners and residents in the area. They have no place to go to, except to abandon their homes. These calls to prayer are extremely loud, and can be heard from a long distance, even inside. That is their purpose, after all, to loudly proclaim the superiority of their god, and to let the moslems know that it is time to submit. If it were a bell, or chime; something with no message other than "time to come to church" then you would have grounds to argue. It's not, though.
The only legitimate basis for opposition is the noise issue.
Noise pollution is only one of the arguments. These calls to prayer are no different than a person coming onto your property, without permission, and preaching to you. If a Christian did that the chorus line of people screaming for blood would extend around the block. As it is, it is only Christians, and predominantly white ones to boot (Polish ancestors) with their religious freedoms being infringed on. That being the case the victims are called intolerant and bigoted; even by well meaning people such as yourself.
People need to wake up. This is the same things that happens anytime a moslem community reaches critical mass. Anywhere in the world this is true. Simply look across our northern border to see the future of America and Islam.
Worth Repeating:
>> No muslim calls to prayer period. If they want that crap they can move to the middle east. <<
This is America. Adapt to OUR traditions or get out.
I did not live during the Inquisition...did you? Do you consider us living during those times now? Sheesh....are YOU still in the 12th century, too?
And, furthermore, wmichgrad.....we do NOT live in the 12th Century here in America....we have not FORCED people here to live under CHRISTIAN doctrine, now have we.....however, YES, this country was formed under CHRISTIAN doctrine...which is a little more sane than what jihad Islam proposes for all....
How many times have you heard a Christian prayer sang several times a day, everyday over a loudspeaker for the ENTIRE neighborhood to hear?
Sorry, your argument does not hold water.
Each of the five-times-daily calls to prayer could be to a different "guitar god", such as:
He maketh me to listen to thundering Stratocasters, my tinnitus overflows." ;-)

Well, apparently you were not aware that the inquisition (i.e. Spanish Catholicism of the period, in all it's fanatical glory), was inspired by the fanaticism of Islam...?
I agree with the previous poster - you paid too much for your education. I'd demand a refund, were I you.
If it were the same thing, the mosques would be ringing bells.
No church would ever be allowed to broadcast "Jesus is the Son of God who was crucified for our sakes and rose again from the dead; come, let us adore him" over loudspeakers, so that it could be heard and understood inside people's homes. It wouldn't be permitted once a week, let alone four times a day. The Muslims are therefore not asking for equal treatment, but special accomodation, and it should not be allowed. If that "smacks of bigotry", I frankly don't care. We are not under any obligation to tolerate all things merely because we choose to tolerate some things. Those who say otherwise are closet tyrants.
No. Catholic.
