Everyone keeps talking about McCain on the Democrat ticket. What if Bush tapped him as VP?
Think it is not possible?
McCain is pro-life, which fills the biggest concern for most Conservatives. (He trumps other popular names such as Powell, Ridge, Guliani, and Rice -- all of whom are pro-choice).
He brings military credibility, and a no nonsense approach that, while not popoular, is authentic.
More importantly, he is currently being lauded by democrats. In fact, Hillary is talking about supporting him on the Kerry ticket. Naming him now, puts dems in a very uncomfortable position, as they have all been building him up.
You think Bush wopn't do it? He will do and must do whatever he has to to get elected. McCain brings cross-over dems and moderates. He also is very atrtractive to independents. Bush would do it, particularly if Cheney says it is the best move.
You think McCain won't do it. Get serious. The man wants to be President. He ets to play white night in saving this administration. He gets the seat as heir apparent to the '08 nomination, and, in two years, he will be out of the House and campaigning. In essence, it would be a two yaer gig for him, where he will have real say and real independence. This is his last and best chance to be President.
I love Cheney. But he is almost certainly going to go to try to improve this ticket. In addition, he has no '08 future. The party must have an '08 advantage, and he has always known that.
Right now, Mccain is the best pick for all of these political reasons.
NO and HELL NO!
McCain hates Bush. His political ego has to be significantly intense for him to even consider it.
"a no nonsense approach that, while not popoular, is authentic. "
That is a hoorible reason to put a guy on the ticket. I can't begin to name the turds throughout history and living today, who could fit in that sentence. Hell, Saddam was authentic and definitely not popular.
VP Cheney is the Presidents choice. I don't see that changing. PERIOD!
Why would President Bush put his known enemy on his ticket?
LBJ and JFK weren't exactly in love with each other either, but they each figured they had something to gain. Apparently, Ronald Reagan and Bush I weren't exactly a mutual admiration society either. I think if there is a political case to be made, there is sometimes a time to hold your nose and take your medicine. I agree the animosity cuts both ways in the Bush/McCain case and that could be a problem, but if each guy thinks they could benefit, you just might see it.
Hopefully Cheney will see the handwriting on the wall and step down of his own accord.
I think you have to be a Republican to run on our ticket.
No. No. No.
Any thoughts?
McCain is NOT pro-life. He has made statements favoring the right to abortion on the public record.
McCain is frankly a lunatic as well. Although we hope not to have a vice president fill a vacancy in the presidency, it can always happen. McCain would be the worst president in U.S. history, with the possible exceptions of Carter and clinton.
What does the handwriting on the wall say?
McCain was so savaged by the Bush machine in 2000, he's now damaged goods. What happend to him is the same thing that happened to Bob Dole in '96. Phil Gramm, Steve Forbes and Pat Buchanan so savaged him in the primary, he was mortally wounded by time it came time to take on Clinton.
Mondale worked miracles with choosing Geraldine Ferraro. That gathered him tremendous electoral votes.
I am so sick of these vanities. These posters just want to see their names in light for a few minutes.
McCain can join the democRATS. Good Riddance!
What if Bush dressed up as a giant prophylactic and ran down the street?
Wouldn't you too if, escpecially in South Carolina, the Bush machine did to you what they did to McCain. I'm not saying that MCCain was the right man for the job. But in SC, the lies and other tactics went over the top.
