NEW YORK Those convinced that liberals make up a disproportionate share of newsroom workers have long relied on Pew Research Center surveys to confirm this view, and they will not be disappointed by the results of Pew's latest study released today.
While most of the journalists, like many Americans, describe themselves as "moderate," a far higher number are "liberal" than in the general population.
At national organizations (which includes print, TV and radio), the numbers break down like this: 34% liberal, 7% conservative. At local outlets: 23% liberal, 12% conservative. At Web sites: 27% call themselves liberals, 13% conservatives.
This contrasts with the self-assessment of the general public: 20% liberal, 33% conservative.
The survey of 547 media professionals, completed this spring, is part of an important study released today by The Project for Excellence in Journalism and The Committee of Concerned Journalists, which mainly concerns more general issues related to newsrooms (an E & P summary will appear Monday).
While it's important to remember that most journalists in this survey continue to call themselves moderate, the ranks of self-described liberals have grown in recent years, according to Pew. For example, since 1995, Pew found at national outlets that the liberal segment has climbed from 22% to 34% while conservatives have only inched up from 5% to 7%.

Diversity is pretty much a meaningless word. It means you hire as many politically correct people as possible and get rid of the conservatives because they are hateful racists.
If those in the media surveyed were being honest, it would be more like 84% liberal and 7% conservative.
They cannot tolerate the thought of being the least bit disliked for any of their views, are intensely insecure and long to be loved and admired by EVERYONE and will amend their views to fit ANY situation!

I'm one of the only black conservatives I know, and when I come across people like you, I remember why all of my friends are so incredulous that I could align myself with the Republican Party. No, I won't let people like you keep me from supporting the party as a whole. But I sure wish you'd just go away, or at least keep your racism to yourself.
(I'm sure you're quick to get mad when northeast liberal elites mock a southern accent. What makes you think it's OK to mock the way black people speak?)
Just because Moody's raised the bond rating a notch, it's still in the bottom of the barrel as far as state government bond ratings go. But I can imagine the Schwarzenegger Swooners just orgassing endlessly about how he's turned things around for the better.(wretch!)

I think you've over-reacted.
Phonemic puns are a rich vein of American humor going back to the 1820s, with all sorts of local dialects in its crosshairs. I enjoy them myself. As an example, you might want to consider the writings of George Washington Harris. I particularly enjoy, Sicily Burns's Wedding (note: these stories are about white folks). A scholarly anthology of such works is Native American Humor, assembled by Walter Blair.
One of the saddest things I have seen in literature is the blacklisting of an epitome of that phonemic genre, Joel Chandler Harris' famous work, Uncle Remus. Harris was an anthropologist who had traced the origins of folk stories of many varieties back thousands of years. He wrote Uncle Remus because of his respect for the wisdom imparted by negro slaves to the children of the Southern aristocracy. That the book was basically banned has deprived American blacks of much of the rich culture and wisdom they brought to this country, an all too typical product of the race baiting hucksters any rational person finds so distasteful.

What they miss is this is Self Reported!! If they actually asked them questions about issues, they would see alot higher amount are liberals. I bet 80% of the "moderates" will vote for Kerry.

I guess I also took too much for granted about conservatives when they abandoned one of their own and got swept off their feet by the Terminator. So when you somehow got upset at my jeering comment directed at a totally leftist organization I can certainly understand Tamsey chiming in. Sometimes that's how it goes around here.
